Ask Sherri Coale how...

I can't believe you actually have to post this to posters who act like they are OU BB aficionados. Any normal OU fan knows most OU men's games have most if not all tickets BOUGHT...that's not the issue...

Don't worry king tut, I was well aware that the tickets were BOUGHT and that's why I originally stated that the stats were bs. Because I don't care what the official numbers are, at the end of the day, the arena is still empty during the men's games.

Other than the Nebraska game I would say the numbers listed are very close to the actual butts-in-seats number.

And whatever difference there is would also be present in the numbers for the womens' games.

@jesse-the-all-knowing...I can't see your posts except when colston quotes you, so if you did not say:

"seriously are those numbers supposed to be official fans showing up or tickets bought?"

As it says in one of your posts he quoted, then the admin probably needs to check in to some sort of bug with this board...

Men
Coppin State - Attendance (7940) - Estimated Attendance (4594)
NCC - (7339) - (3692)
TX Southern - (8511) - (4736)
GWebb - (7466) - (3607)
ORU - (8511) - (4736)
Sac State - (7726) - (3857)
UCA - (7851) - (3885)
MD-Eastern Shore - (7447) - (3311)
A&M - (9968) - (7527)
TTech - (9240) - (5996)
Colorado - (9158) - (6726)
Baylor - just listed as 6000...I'll have to exclude this one...
Texas - only listed as 11572...that's funny...
Nebraska - (7990) - (4759)
Kansas - (10994) - (8773)...over half were KU

hmmm...let's exclude the Texas and Baylor games since the actual attendance was not put on soonersports.com

total attendance (13 games) - 110,141 (8472)
actual butts in the seats (13 games) - 66,199 (5092)

A discrepancy of 3,380 a game.

And you sir didn't catch the sarcastic nature of my question. I was kind of taking a shot at the inflated numbers because they're laughable. I can view soonersports or soonerstats just like you everyone else.

One thing Sherri isn't hampered by is the heinous "Donor Program." It's killed attendance for many OU men's game since the fall of '84. As I recall, a lot of die-hard basketball fans - who'd been season ticket holders since the LNC opened in '76, lost their seats to fat-cats who show up 3-4 times a year and who bought tickets for football priority points.

Just venture over to the Women's board, and you will find the same kind of threads as you see over here. They are saying nice things like:

CP3 didn't develop under Coale, no players develop under Coale, Coale did a terrible coaching job because SHE LET the Baylor shooter go 9-12 from deep, and a wide array of the same types of posts we see here daily. Reminds me of the KS yrs. There are alot of posters currently trying to act like they were sooooo happy with KS, but the truth is that not many people were on the boards defending him either....

Coach Coale has done a phenomenal job, but she still gets slammed by many Sooner fans. Nature of the beast. We have some of the most temperamental/schizo fans in the country, IMO.....

I agree with your general point that fans are almost never happy, but there were PLENTY of people defending Sampson (prior to the NCAA problems at the end). The torch-bearing mob tried to shout down the supporters, but Sampson had more than his share of defenders.

To be fair, for some reason, old people absolutely love women's basketball.

I'm not sure why, but it is so. Those are the people at the women's games.

And Jesse, using a picture of the Kansas game from late in the second half when we were getting blown out to show that there is an attendance problem is just stupid.

By the way, what section were you sitting in on Saturday?

To compare the two is ridiculous. If you sign up with the OU text messages you can get free tickets to almost every home game. The tickets are also considerably less expensive for the women. This argument along with the other stupid one that the women could beat the men are just hilarious. Really, you can get good seats at any womens game for $15. I watched yesterday and saw more women over 60 than you see at the Golden Corral any day at 4pm.

The demographics aren't the same and neither are the prices...it is actually a really stupid comparison.

The women don't fill LNC w/ 10K screaming septigenarians. Because of the costy difference, you also find lots of families w/ little kids - especially little girls.

Other than price, I think I can tell you why both demographics like the women's team - if you're really interested..

1) The girls are very involved in the community and terrific ambassadors for the university and the state.

2) After a heartbreaking loss yesterday, the girls still gathered at midcourt for a post-game prayer, stayed on the court for the OU Chant and smiled and waved goodbye to the fans as they left the court, no matter how bad they feel. They do this after every game, win or lose.

3) For the most part, the girls make good grades and get their degrees. They're good role models on and off the court for little girls and the parents like this.

But make no mistake, the fans would still love the team, but not nearly as many would show up for games if they didn't win games.

The texas game proves this statement. Bad roads from snow didn't even keep the LNC from turning into standing room only viewing all because it was free. Drop the price and people will come. Re-evaluate season ticket holders actually showing up. We've got a big wig banker with 4 seats infront of our seats but he shows maybe 3 times a year and doesn't bother giving his tickets to friends/family to support the team. Drives me CRAZY!

Jackie Cooper and his cohorts have owned the seats right behind us for as long as I've been alive. Not only do he and his family never show, but they're tickets are always given to opposing fans. If we're playing Texas, Kansas or O-State, you can bet there will be a Horn, Hawk or Aggie in those seats. It's ridiculous.

I don't know if Jackie is giving them away or if Greg Price is to blame, but it gets REALLY old.

I agree. I was certainly one of them that supported Sampson.

The last remaining home game for the women and the men is Oklahoma State. Reserved level tickets for the women are $15. GA tickets are $10. The cheapest ticket (upper level behind the goals) for the men is $30. There is a $45 level and then a $60 level. $5 youth and senior citizen tickets are being sold for the women's game. There is no senior discount for the men's game. There is a youth discount, but it is a whopping $5 and can only be used on the $30 pricing level.

Who here would pay $60 to watch this men's team? Fair question.
