Assistant coach news?

That seems like a pretty lateral move but maybe he is "lead assistant" now.

I agree it's kind of surprising. I thought Mason's bio was good except he only has 4 years of experience.

OU has gone from 3 really good, experienced assistants with Henson, Hill, and Crutchfield to where we are now. Kevin Kruger is very young and inexperienced, so that's why I think they need a proven, experienced coach. Maybe someone who really knows the Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana coaches and AAU circuit.

Although not experienced at the D1 level, someone like Jeff Webster.

The latest news about Mason shoots holes in the rumor I heard that he might be a serious candidate on OU's staff. It also adds to the intrigue about who will fill the remaining spot?

To me, the best news on the coaching front lately is that Coach Crutch may not be going anywhere, at least for now.

Agreed. If Coach Crutch had left, it would have really put the staff in some chaos. At least Kevin Kruger knows Crutch and his Dad, so he knows what the expectations are and the path to get there.

I don't think the late signing period is over until May 18th, and I'm guessing the new assistant is on staff somewhere and they are waiting to announce the hiring until after all the spring signings.
