At this time last year...

Boy, were you right. Getting rid of Cade Davis what just what we needed. THAT's why our rebounding and defense are worlds better. Now that might seem counter-intuitive to some, given that Cade was second on the team in rebounds last season, second in steals, and third in blocks (not to mention the team's leading scorer), but it's now clear to anyone with eyes in their head and a lick of sense that he was the problem in 2011.

Coach Kruger's just darned lucky Davis is gone; I'm sure he'd be able to find no use whatsoever for his energy and skills.

It's not any more ridiculous than Gary continuing to contend that Pledger is no good.
It's one of those things you just have to learn to tune out.

Tuning Gary out. Something I haven't done a very good job of. :(

Please read the post before you comment critically. I'm not saying Pledger is no good. I am saying that if it is the objective of the program to be a perinial top 20 caliber team, Pledger isn't good enough.

Those of you that want to argue that point are free to do so. Because you have no evidence to support your opinion, you are just playing Peter Pan Gold Mine with yourself.

And I'll say it again, your opinion is horse crap. Give this team a bench, get Cam playing up to his potential or replace him with a kid that can, and possibly get a bigger post guy to replace Fitz or Osby, and you pretty much have a clone of every Kelvin team except the 2003 and 2004 teams. We aren't THAT far off. And right now, Pledger is the least of our worries. No depth, and not having a single back to the basket guy (and no height to alter shots, etc) is the problem. Not getting crap out of Cam is the problem. But Pledger? Please.

Kelvin Sampson took a team to the NCAA's with Tim frickin' Heskett starting more than half the team's games. But Steven Pledger is our problem. lmao

I really don't get the criticism of pledger. He was a top 100 high school player (some had him slightly lower). That alone says he is in the top .0008 percent of all high school basketball players. (Wikipedia claims the national federation of state highschool associatons published a figure of 1,002,797 obys and girls playing high school basketball for 2003/04. If half are boys that is approximatley 500,000 boys playing basketball. If they are evenly dispersed between freshman and seniors that is 125,000 seniors). That is Pledger (and all other top 100 players) are in the 99.92 percentile.

If you then look at his actual performance, he is playing at a high level compared to all other college players. Right now Pledger is the second leading scorer in the conference. The conference has 10 teams with 13 players per team (excluding walkons and ignoring that a team or two could be short on players). That means Pledger is in the top 1.5% of all Big XII guys for scoring.

I just don't see any basis to contend the kid is not a really good basketball player. He excelled in high school and now he is excelling in college. It seems to me Pledger is really good.

I thought you were trying to ignore me. I wish you would because it is always the same. It is always someone else's's deficency. Never Pledgers.

Fitz is better at what he does than Pledger is at his job. He doesn't score as much. But, everyone of his points are close quartered grind them out types. Certainly tougher than the wide open looks Grooms and Blair feed Pledger. Fitz has trouble defending quality bigs. Pledger can not guard anyone. Our 2nd teampoint guard can isolate him and beat him one on one. I watched him do it for weeks.

Osby defends, brings the ball up court, scores and rebounds. What else do you want him to do? Tape ankles?

And Grooms, do you really want to try to continue to argue that he isn't up to the task of being a quality point guard?

So what? That leaves Cam as the weak link. I mean he is a good defender and a really good transition guy. He just needs to score more is that right? How many more? If he could just average 12, would that fast track us to the tourney? That really would be getting us close.

But, with that said. I really can follow your arguement. I think. So, what your saying is that if everyone else on the team was better. Then, OU could still be a good team in spite of the fact that all they had for a #2 is a catch and shoot guy that doesn't contribute much anywhere else. As amazing as that is coming from you. That is probably true.

It's amazing how one poster can so sour the atmosphere on a board like this one. Not because of his opinions, which he's of course entitled to and which might even prove to be compelling, if only they were offered with 90% less arrogance and aggression.

Occasional flare-ups aside, this is a generally pretty civil place, but some folks just can't seem to communicate online in any other mode than all-out scorched earth.

I'm just looking forward to how good we'll be next year.
Especially with Amath M'Baye as one of our starting guards.

Poor thing. I didn't realise you were so fragil.
