Baylor fan has seen Cezar play

Bad defense is correctible.

Correct, but it hasn't been corrected in 4 or 5 seasons, IMO. Somebody has to correct it for it to be corrected, so who is going to be the corrector? Or the correctee? :ez-laugh:

I think we should have arbitrary Baylor fans examine all of our potential recruits. That is a sure path towards success in recruiting!

Because Blake was coming here..he was a burger boy

Big difference btwn blake and cezar, and cezar is not even committed to us so his opinion is completely un-biased.....

I do have my reservations about cezar, but the fact is we depserately need a pg and if he is the best available take him...

I like elijah carter alot though

both please

Both would be sweet, but we need a pg and a center...and by my counts we only have 2 scholorships, is that right? if we do have 3 i say lets take both

goff took cades, we lost tj and abdul so thats 2, and if hardrick cant stay eligible thats 3

Booger, I know I'll be called stupid and assinine for stating this, but OU won its last two games basically because the Sooners have improved significantly on defense – not because they've suddenly become clones of Billy Tubbs' high-flying teams teams of the 1980s. Do they still have a way to go? Absolutely. If they continue to suffer the same type of defensive lapses they had against Tech and Colorado, they won't be able to beat any of the upper echelon teams in the Big XII.

I don't know exactly who it is that has been teaching the Sooners how to play better defense, though I suspect the improvements are a result of two things: (1) the natural progression of a young team that had almost no Division 1 experience when the season started, and (2) having a coach who refused to give up on these kids and continued to preach tough defense until it finally started to register.

Then again, maybe Capel got President Boren to come in and give the boys a pep talk. Whatever puts crooked numbers in the "W" column certainly works for me.

Scrybe -- can you just, for one minute, cease coming after me and enjoy the humor of play on words in my post?

To your post, though...this team plays horrible defense. Sugar coat it how you wish, it's fact, the defense is atrocious. True, it has been better the last few games, but it's a long way from being considered "good" defense. Of course, it helps we play 2 teams that aren't very great on offense...

this team plays horrible defense.

Coming after you? That's a good one, BOB. :ez-laugh: This board just wouldn't be fun without you. Anyway, you've had ample time to respond to SoonerBounce's response to you "atrocious defense" comments. But I realize it can take a little time to formulate the correct response, so I'll keep waiting. :ez-laugh:

Respond? To what? Just because some teams score less points when they play us doesn't mean our defense is good. Our offense takes a lot of shot clock most possessions and that means less possessions for the other team. Less possessions equals less points.

When Tubbs coached, we scored a lot of fast-break points as did the opponent due to our full-court uptempo style. This created more possessions for the opponent, which equaled more points. Did that mean our defense wasn't very good because teams were scoring more on us than they normally did, even though they were losing the game?

Stats are for losers anyway. :ez-laugh:

Here are some official stats:

http://www.big12sports.com/ViewContent.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=10410&CONTENT_ID=120029

Scoring defense -- 9th
Scoring Margin -- 11th
FG % defense -- 10th
3pt FG % defense -- 12th
Rebounding -- 12th
Rebounding defense -- 3rd (woo-hoo)
Rebounding margin -- 10th
Blocked shots -- 9th
steals -- 12th
defensive rebounds -- 11th
defensive rebound % -- 6th

Yep, our defense is solid. :ez-laugh:

For a minute there, I thought you said "Stats are for losers.” :ez-laugh:

3pt FG % defense -- 8th
Rebounding -- 12th

Rebounding margin -- 9th

Here are the conference game team stats. Quite a bit difference considering we are going against better teams. I don't think anybody ever said we were good. I just don't think we are horrible like you said. I would say average

Its all semantics, but following a bell curve I would say good would be ranked 1-3, average between 4-9, and bad 10-12.

Out of 11 categories listed, we are average in 4 and bad in 7. IMO, this means our defense is bad, but it has definitely improved vs conference foes. One could also say when you are at the bottom, the only way to go is up, which is what we are doing.

Would be interesting to see how we end the regular season in the defensive categories.

And really, Booger, that's all I was saying to begin with. But you reacted by screaming about how wrong I was for saying the Sooners were playing "great defense."

What I said, verbatim was: OU won its last two games basically because the Sooners have improved significantly on defense.

Thanks for the stats.

Usually I don't pay much attention to the conference stats until about the 9th or 10th game of the schedule. We haven't played KU or Mizzou (traditionally two of the higher scoring teams) as of yet, which benefits us. But it is good to see we have improved a little.
