Baylor/OU

The energy we had 4th quarter is what we should have all game. I can see us as a good team. We just have to put things together. But we are running out of time. Think about who the good players are: Vivi, T'Ona, Gioya we are still pretty young. We are on the upswing. We need confidence, rebounding, and a vocal leader. Don't give up on this team

U better not leave Maddie out of that convo. She was everywhere

But I agree.

I don't care what you say about Sherri Coale Mulkey is just a thorn in the side of her players no confidence no calm just crazy I don't care what the outcome is Coale is the better coach may not have the best talent but she coaches not screams

Sherri the better coach is debatable. Certainly not even close to the better recruiter.

We lost the game in the first five minutes of the first and third quarters. It is almost impossible to play worse than we did, making silly turnovers four and five times down the court. None of the turnovers was forced.

We also had problems rebounding and holding on to the ball. We got it, and lost it. This happened at the start of both halves. They scored. Lost about sixteen points with our play in the first five minutes of each half.

Would have been nice if a couple of layups that rolled off had gone in.

There wasn't that much difference. The differences were magnified a bit by our own "deer in the headlights," to paraphrase soonerslife, look. They are about ten points better at this time.

I thought the officials missed four or five bad calls. Don't know if that would have made the difference. Davis over Maddie's back, and they called the foul on Maddie? That time out when they had possession---she didn't have anything resembling possession. A football official would have called that a trapped ball, not a possession. Couple of the blocks on Kay Kay were charges. Mompremier did not block a couple of shots. They were clearly fouls.

Gioya should have a future, but it wasn't apparent tonight. She made more mistakes than she did good things tonight. Silly fouls. Bad shot selection. One rebound, three points. If Gioya had been even a bit on tonight, she was what we needed. She and Peyton were off tonight.

Maddie led both teams in rebounds, as well as OU in assists. How many feeds did she make only to have Kay Kay or Vivi blow the layups?

We played better against Texas. Baylor played better than us.

Maddie hasn't hit the tip of the iceberg on where she can go. She was blowing by there players and they sagged off 3 ft on her.

Gioya needs to work on the fundamentals, her game isn't gonna work against these teams. she is more than capable though.

Lot of promise. Lot of Promise. Thats twice we could of won it in the 4th against this team. If a couple players really lock in this offseason and develop- and we get a couple more bodies to throw at Jones next season- there is hope ladies and gentleman. There is hope.

Understanding Baylor may be ever better next year... As in probably national title favorites? But we can get em'. I see it, they just gotta put the work in

Baylor is bigger and more athletic. The Sooners fought hard, but not often smart. When they went on the run to get back into the game, they had Baylor playing to our style. But after ViVi made 1 of 2 free throws, Baylor took control.

Baylor won't go far playing like they did tonight.

I get frustrated watching this Sooner team. At times, 80% seem to be spectators. At other times, they drive the baseline with no options.

Then there's the game plan. We wanted to get it to the post on most possessions. Against a bigger center and athletic forwards, this put Kay Kay, ViVi and Treece trying to make tough shots. Meanwhile Baylor was settling for pull up 10 footers. Our guards had numerous chances to pull up for short jumpers, but chose to dribble out or pass it away.

Since I just got in from the game, I haven't had a chance to see stats or really read much of the posts here. The key to the game was a simple fundamental. It is one of the first things you learn when you begin playing basketball, the lay up. We missed 16 point blank shots tonight. At this level it should be an 80 per cent shot. Make half of them, we win. The five stupid turnovers to start the second half certainly didn't help. This should have been a double digit win at home. I am proud of how the kids kept fighting and clawing their way back into the game. Jones was a beast at crunch time, I am surprised we didn't zone and double team her when she had the ball. This Baylor team is good, no doubt, but I don't see them as a one seed in the dance at all, not sour grapes, just my opinion.

Promise, yes. Frustration? He!! yes! At times we can play well, and sometimes poor judgement and the same old mistakes keep us from success. Bounce passes that hit teammates too low to handle, drive into double teams, or baseline with no where to go, half way grabbing rebounds and not securing them from snipers, shooting when off balance, just mistakes that we create that keep we keep repeating.
It is one thing to get beat by a better team that night, but too often we dig a hole with (the same old) mental errors that is too deep to get out of.
Like tonight. We lost it, not they won it.

Mike I share your frustration, I agree, they had more points on the board, but we sure squandered a lot of very good opportunities.

19 missed layups........................... thats 40 pts- not takin into a account the the plays we missed multiples, i suppose. but my lord. I will be so dissapointed in this season if we never hit our peak

It's been pretty much a pattern for SC teams over the years. It's almost like they work on it. :sherri175_jpg_xs:

btw. Watch those last two shots by Jones in the lane. Those are offensive fouls. You can't bump your shoulder in to player to get space like that

In order for us to be successful for years to come and keep competing with Baylor, it is a must we recruit some athleticism and playmakers . To have a player like Jones take over the way she did in the final minutes in the 4th seperates us from being an elite program. Like I said in a previous post, shooters are good to have, but we will continue to struggle against more athletic and big physical teams until we start recruiting some athleticism and playmakers who can take over a game when needed.

Baylor defense had Peyton spooked.
Had no idea what was up with Gioya tonight.
I understand Gabi started to heat up in the 4th but T'Ona deserved way more time in the 4th quarter than she was given. Jones had her way in the 4th, Peyton and Maddie had no business guarding her at all.
I think our post rotation was awesome, but at the end of the day your guards are going to win you the games.

I look forward for more battles between the two teams over the years. But in order for us to stay competitive it is crucial we sign a play making PG in the 2017 class.

Did you know that we outrebounded Baylor?

So. Jones came up big in the fourth quarter? She finished 6 of 15. She was missing a lot earlier. She and Niya also have a tendency to shuffle their feet before driving. Were they ever called?

Announcer said Mompremier traveled. Foul on whom?

We aren't looking for anyone open other than the post.

Baylor didn't "win" this game. OU gave it to them on a plate. 9 missed layups in the first half - hit 6 of those and we have a 2 pt lead at the half. Unforced turnovers. Very good rebounding could have been better if we would get a grip on the ball. After the 5 turnovers to start the 2nd half I couldn't watch anymore - laid down on the bed and massaged by forehead with both hands. But I love this team. Would love to see their A game (which they are capable of having) for 4 quarters - OU could play with and beat anyone except UConn. Hopefully we will get to see it just once this season - One Shining Moment.

Interestingly one could go back the last 3 or 4 years and read about almost the exact same problems on all but a couple of games each year. Can't make layups, can't use the glass, turnovers, driving into traffic with no options, and on. Fundamentals. Wonder why?

Yeah you gave the game to us. I guess we helped you out by missing 15 FTs too! The game was very sloppy by both teams. Wish we could play a solid game from start to finish without making so many mistakes and missing easy shots. Glad to see AJ take control late when we needed a bucket. Also proud of smothering defense on Little by Prince to completely take her out of the game.
