Baylor vs MSU

Sorry I just cannot get any comfort from someone else's failure. When the Sooners play well and play hard but lose, yes. Unfortunately we play both well and hard far too infrequently.

Try to keep my focus on OU. To concern myself with Baylor unless we are playing them to me is idiotic. Reminds me of the envious puke fans from Stoolwater that are so preoccupied with the Sooners success that they would rather see OU lose than OSU win. I call it Sooner Syndrome.

But then we see Sooner fans on TV at a televised KSU game flash the whorns down sign when the boob tube puts them on the screen. Kind of makes one think the Sooners have a similar disease to the sister school to the north.

Now OU WBB fans are getting a bad case of Mulkey's Malady. Folks we play Baylor in baseball Mar. 24-26, men's tennis April 7 and softball April 21-23. Aside from those upcoming contest we should have no concern with the school less than a hour and a half south of the metroplex.

All teams Boomer Sooner that should be our focus. Don't let our conference rivals have any of our attention. They don't need it nor deserve it. They should not exist except to figure out how to beat them.

+1

Spock I do not disagree with one thing you posted, I just can't help celebrating in the failures of Baylor's women's basketball team. Boomer Sooner.

To each his own. A Big 12 team in the Final Four would have been good for the conference which has not had one since Baylor in 2012. This is the 5th year with no Big 12 team in the WFF. Bad.

No one cares what conferences make Final 4. What conference and members are Gonzaga's men's team a member of???

And why would the Big 12 want such an embarrassing member to be elevated nationally???

You want to talk about BAD.....

Anyone wanting to keep the B12 in tact log term knows that more participants the conference has in CFP, Final Four, women's Final Four. CWS and the WCWS the better.

Obviously the CFP is far more important than other 4 post seasons combined but the others are definitely a potentially positive factor. Their success adds revenue to the conference coffers and positive national exposure for the conference.

If the Big 12 did not want Baylor to be elevated nationally they would rule them ineligible for the appropriate post season participation. So I guess the conference has already answered your last question.

I really doubt the conference has all the information at this time to make that determination! To my knowledge, the Big 12 doesn't have an investigative arm of the conference thus they would have to rely on NCAA and other enforcement agencies (federal, state and local).

Perhaps but then we should all wait until all the facts are made public before taking a position on what should happen to Baylor. We do know that things are changing constantly with a lot of that information coming from plaintiff's attorneys and a media today that no longer reports but make commentary instead.

Very tough for any of us to know the real facts on anything until it is fully investigated. We can think we know enough and have good basis for our opinions but time often lead one to conclude they were mistaken.

You are seriously trying to tie this defense of Mulkey to the 'we can't trust the press" nonsense?

Can you trust what you have seen? Or, do you, like Kim Mulkey, have receptors that fail to see the nonsense that Baylor pulls.

I'd like to go back to the actual game between these two teams.

Sitting in the stands, I saw a few things that gave MSU the ability to win the game.

1. They were faster than Baylor.

2. They were athletic.

3. They had an inside player (6' 7") who was able to move and play fast. She was obviously athletic. In fact all the MSU players seemed athletic.

We should be improved in the first two areas with Chelsea, Ana, Maddie, and Gabbi on the court. Plus we are adding another player or two who may add a lot in that area.

My biggest worry is the speed & athleticism of our inside play. We really need to do something about that. Vivi starts out at a disadvantage against the taller players. She is only 6'3" and is often going up against players several inches taller in key games. Nancy has the height but needs to improve her hands, strength, and footwork.

One of the major questions is will they all invest the time and energy needed to improve over the next 6 months. If several of them take a vacation from improving themselves until September, there is little chance of much better results next year.

Agreed. On the post play, I think EJ is probably the quickest, most athletic of the 3 but she didn't start playing until freshman/sophomore year? She made good strides from 1st year to second but needs big improvement over this summer. I think she has lots of upside if she can focus and put in the work in the offseason.

Hopefully some here are beginning to see that Sherri has not placed enough emphasis on recruiting more athletic skilled basketball players at every position. I think that is the reason for the decline in the Sooners level of play over the last 7 years.

I do think that the return of Pam Decosta has resulted in our signing more of these players just not enough. But it still appears to me that with Sherri's continued emphasis on developing a student athlete that is the total product is contrary to building a team that competes for championships in the conference and nationally. I think she need to tweak her targeted profile.

I also think that you do not have to recruit and sign thugs to be a top contender for post season honors. There is a happy medium that allows for top talent and quality kids to come to Norman even though the team grade point drops a couple of tenths but still compete for championships, not necessarily annually but on a frequent basis. We need to get to that level ASAP. That is Sherri's responsibility.

I agree OU doesn't have to recruit thugs, for the most part I don't see very many teams with thugs on them...Baylor included. The good teams play hard, it's a different game now with better athletic players. Either change or get left behind are the only options I see for Sherri Coale. If she doesn't like or will not make the changes then I say thanks and good luck. There most likely lots of church leagues around Norman looking for a coach.
