Bennett Commits to OU!!!

^Thanks for the answer guys.

Three big men graduate next season. Counting Neal as a '3-guard', returning posts would be - M'Baye, Spangler, Bennett. Are we thinking for next year - one guard, two posts?
Either way, hopefully we can find three studs.

Are you assuming Henry will come in? If so, I think we go for 2 guards, and one post (plus Henry). Henry is a raw 4 IMO. I really think, unless Spanger/Bennett end up being better than advertised (ie, good enough to start), we're better off passing on Henry. Just not sure what he adds with the current roster. But whatever LK decides, that what I'll get behind.

Is Bennett a guy who is going get spot minutes off the bench or is he a force in the middle? Doesn't OU need someone inside who can score as well as play good D and rebound? In other words a HORSE.
Arnedt tries but he is just a plugger who is never going to light it up once in a while. Is Bennett a lot better, a little better, about the same but perhaps more of an athlete?
OU doesn't need any projects right now. The team needs to win now.
Over 500% record next year with some kind of tournament, preferable the NCAAs but If we have to settle, a real deep run in the NIT.

Not really. First, there aren't any players like that, that OU can get, available at this point. Second, only the best of the best from HS this year would have been able to come in and steal minutes from Osby, M'Baye, and Fitz. Now next year, the 2013 class, yes, we need to recruit some starter-quality big men, no doubt.

Rivals is also showing Bennett as committed if that means anything. If the guy can play right away, I'd red shirt Arent like he initially wanted to do when he came to OU.

No way.
Get Arent's schollie open.
Not that I don't think he has the ability to contribute some his senior year, but I think it's better to devote a scholarship for 2013 to a freshman with 4 years in front of him than a redshirt senior who will be a role player.

I must have been counting Henry, I guess. So we have 4 for next year, and Henry would make it 3, if he gets one. Right?

If Henry is good enough. I want him. If not, I think we should pass.
All I know is, in 2011, he was a top 100 player. I don't quite understand what happened at New Mexico...he signed but went back to prep school? Can someone explain that to me?

I think Bennett is a good pick-up but don't expect much from him other than some defense and banging in the post. His numbers at juco weren't great but I expect he will allow us to "go big". M'Baye, Osby, and Fitz will likely get more minutes than he will.

I still expect to see a 3 guard, 2 post line-up much of the time. Bennett will allow Lon to match up with whatever the other team puts on the floor.

From what I have gathered, he did not qualify for New Mexico, went to prep school, decided he wanted to come here, didn't qualify, and is now in JUCO.

Sounds to me like a nightmare from an scholastic standpoint, and not worth the risk with the quality of talent in the 2013 class IMO.

Yes, that is correct.

Best ranking for him that I found was 119th.

And best I can tell, for the 2013 class, we'll need to recruit two guards, and two posts. I'm just not sure I'm okay with having Henry be one of those two posts. Not b/c I don't like his potential, but b/c we need to be targeting guys that can start from day 1, IMO.

Gonna be interesting.

How long is the Spring Signing period? I assume if it is still "open" we should expect an official release from OU within a day or two??

I get what everyone is saying about Arent, but they are conveniently forgetting about what he sad about himself. During his recruitment he specifically said that he was not ready to play at OU's level and also specifically requested that he get an opportunity to red shirt. I know everyone thinks the kid is horrible or something, but even he admitted that he wasn't up to the task and took one for the team in playing when it wasevidet we needed bodies over 6'5". I don't get paid $2M a year to make these decisions, and this is a "business" decision, but with plenty of depth next year I'd give the guy a year, 6'10" non-stiffs [and he isn't a stiff] don't fall off trees.
