Bet Marcus Smart will be getting a vacation

He had a flagrant 2 against Orlando two weeks ago as well for elbowing Elfrid Payton in the head. Same player he always has been...

Smart may be a dirty player, but hey, he's averaging nearly 8 points a game!

I recall early in the season when he had a decent game or two and certain posters were rushing to insist he was going to prove his doubters wrong. Maybe he still will, but he hasn't yet, not by a long shot.

There's more to basketball than just scoring points. He's already an elite defender as rookie. He's going to be a good one. He's one of those guys you love to hate unless he's on your team.

Smart has been winning warrior but I wouldn't expect an over the hill band geek who knows nothing about what it takes to compete to understand.

Marcus Smart is his own worst enemy.

Exactly.

No one is calling him a perennial all star, but for the Smart detractors, he is going to play 8-10 years in the league easy. That's pretty damn good.

He has the ability to play 8-10 years. His head will keep him from doing that unless he grows up.

Smart is a marginal NBA talent & a POS. Quick somebody come defend him, lol.

The point with Smart is not whether he's a strong player; no one's ever said he wasn't -- I certainly haven't. But he wasn't hyped for two years as a solid contributor, he was presented as God's gift to basketball. Given that, anything short of serious candidacy for Rookie of the Year might fairly be viewed as him not living up to the hype. And if he's going to continue to have issues with self-control on the court, those teammates who think so highly of him now may not hold that opinion for terribly long.

The "Smart detractors" are, at this point in time, closer to being correct about him than the people who oversold him for two years. I don't think there have been that many people who weren't able to acknowledge that he's a talented player; they just objected to the over-the-top hype -- that was my stance on him, anyway -- and so far, it appears we were justified in feeling that way. He's a good player, but he's hardly the all-world phenom he was sold as.

I can name a number of guys across all sports that have done much dirtier sh*t than Smart and they have stuck around just fine. Ndamukong Suh for one. Ron Artest as well. Those two make Smart look like a choir boy. Although, I hate those types of players and Smart will find his way into the group if he keeps it up. Currently has one foot in that door.

The Celtics are 14-8 since Smart was inserted into the starting lineup. They are 8.4 points better per 100 possessions when he's on the floor. His head coach and veteran teammates are raving about what he's bringing to the table. Anybody trying to insinuate he's not performing to/above expectations just doesn't understand the game. His competitiveness and athletic ability are world class. He was a steal at #6.

He's a real baller.
