Billy Clyde Resigns

If am TTU, I am calling up Kelvin and asking him who his #1 assistant would be.
Then I'd make THAT guy the interim coach.
And in November 2013, I officially hire Kelvin Sampson when his ban is over.
Why not?

I'd hate to see him in Lubbock. He's the perfect guy for that place.

Sampson is doing well in the nba. Doubt he would trade that for Tech & the NCAA scrutiny.

Well, I think he wants to be a head coach somewhere. The NBA, short of the Phil Jackson's that get lucky and inherit a few of the best players to ever play the game, is nothing more than a 'Wait-to-get-fired' league. Often in only 2-3 yrs.

If Sampson went to TTU and rebuilt them, in 4-5 years he'd be in a position to upgrade to a better program. If Sampson gets an NBA job after next season, he'd probably be fired in that same time frame. More money? Perhaps. But I think Sampson has an ego that isn't fueled by money. I think he wants to be known as one of the great coaches in the game.

All that said, you are right about NCAA scrutiny.
But all he has to do is stop making impermissable phone calls and he's probably fine.

I don't see Kelvin coming back to the NCAA, unless he ends up jobless in the NBA. He's been gone long enough that he probably doesn't miss it much. JMO.

I've heard from someone who knows Kelvin well that he's VERY happy in the NBA and as much as the college phone call issues, etc., hurt him, they were a blessing in disguise for him.

Can't be true. Kelvin's coaching methods would never work in the NBA. ;)

Getting fired in the NBA just means waiting a year or two before getting hired by some other team. That seems to be a coaching fraternity where once you're in, you're in.
