Griffin is a Great Player, no doubt about it. And I love what he is doing in the NBA, but that is 2 years removed from OU. And no credit is being given to Capel for how Taylor and Longar develop under Capel or even Blake. Blake wasn't even 1 of the top 25 players in the country his freshman year...Maybe not even top 50 in the country. And people weren't picking him as the preseason MVP his sophmore year.
You have to joking...he was a borderline lottery pick. Most definitely a top 25 player in the nation. Gottlieb and Fraschilla both picked BG as their preseason NPOY as a sophomore.
Sorry, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I don't think a great athletic director is someone who does tremendous things for the historically-sound football program and lets another program with a great recent history completely collapse like a house of cards.
What do you expet him to do prior to last year? He made a hire and until last year that team made two NCAAs in a row with an Elite Eight appearance. Joe C didn't let anything collapse.
I just think that he needs to try just as hard on MBB as he does on everything else.
In what way? As I just said, the team was coming off an Elite Eight and a recruiting class with two McDAAs, where was the indication anything was wrong from an AD standpoint?
Should Rick Barnes be fired because he didn't win the national championship with Kevin Durant? After all, Durant has won a scoring title in the NBA and is by all accounts a top 5player overall. Calipari couldn't win a title with four first round draft picks last year. Should he be fired?
Calipari is going to have "down" year this season and probably still win 20+ games. Barnes has never missed a NCAA tournament at Texas. Apples to oranges comparison.
what are you smoking. We return all but one guy. We are bringing in...so far...The #3 juco player in the country, a transfer who should be our best player after sitting out a year, a RS freshman who can shoot the ball well. And not to mention that we have 2 scholarships still available.
Osby will definitely help at the 4, Goff will be an energy big off the bench. Taylor (coming out of high school) is not someone who was recruited as a shooter, so your description may be a little far fetched. Two extra scholarships? Maybe one if Hardrick leaves.
I understand bball and I knew that this year was not going to be one for the faint of heart.
You just said BG wasn't a top 50 player in the nation his freshman year, won't elaborate further.
We played a tough schedule. Not necessarily great teams but teams that would be hard to beat. But I'm glad that these kids are playing this schedule. It will make them compete at a higher level and help them prepare for next year. I DONT NEED A WEAK SCHEDULE TO GIVE US EASY WINS TO GIVE US A MIRAGE THAT WE WERE BETTER THAN WHAT WE REALLY WERE. The big 12 is going to eat us alive...and I love it. I love the fact that our team is going thru a gauntlet that will prepare us for next season.
Well your theory isn't shared by a majority of Divison I basketball coaches...usually with young teams coaches play a softer schedule. You hear coaches all the time about trying to "teach your kids to win" at the collegiate level. Furthermore, our schedule to date hasn't been that tough, we are ranked will in the triple digits when it comes to SOS.
