Blake Griffin, Capel, and lastyear.

Improvements happen.

Davis went from avg 9.9 ppg and shooting 39% to 14.8ppg and shooting 42%
Fitzgerald avg 4.8ppg and 2rpg to 15ppg and 6.1 rpg
Pledger avg 6.2 ppg to 10.3ppg and he's already has more assist on the year than he had all of last season.

Pledger and Fitz were both freshmen last year and now they are sophmores and they have made big improvements. Thats why I expect that we will have a better team. We will have 10 guys that been with this program that will have an opportunity to improve their game.

bgrch...do you agree that if Capel doesn't reach the tourney next year he should be fired?

I think people just didn't really realize how thin the cupboard would be this year.

I'm heartened by the improvements players have made from last year to this year, and I'll continue to follow the team and watch for development (along with cringe at times, cheer at times, shake my head at times, and smile at times).

Looking forward to next year, but will back Capel, the staff, and the team as much as I can now as well. I'm here to enjoy the jouney and support, and that's what I'll do.

If Capel doesn't make it next year, Yes he should be fired.

I understand bball and I knew that this year was not going to be one for the faint of heart. With only 3 returning guys, There was no doubt in my mind that we were going to have a horrible year.

We played a tough schedule. Not necessarily great teams but teams that would be hard to beat. But I'm glad that these kids are playing this schedule. It will make them compete at a higher level and help them prepare for next year. I DONT NEED A WEAK SCHEDULE TO GIVE US EASY WINS TO GIVE US A MIRAGE THAT WE WERE BETTER THAN WHAT WE REALLY WERE. The big 12 is going to eat us alive...and I love it. I love the fact that our team is going thru a gauntlet that will prepare us for next season.

To be fair I'm not sure even a "weak schedule" would have saved this team. When we can't beat Chaminade and we have to pull a win out of our arse versus Directional Central State Tech, I'm not sure how many "weak" teams we could even beat. I guess we'll find out in the next couple of games.

Griffin is a Great Player, no doubt about it. And I love what he is doing in the NBA, but that is 2 years removed from OU. And no credit is being given to Capel for how Taylor and Longar develop under Capel or even Blake. Blake wasn't even 1 of the top 25 players in the country his freshman year...Maybe not even top 50 in the country. And people weren't picking him as the preseason MVP his sophmore year.

You have to joking...he was a borderline lottery pick. Most definitely a top 25 player in the nation. Gottlieb and Fraschilla both picked BG as their preseason NPOY as a sophomore.

Sorry, I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I don't think a great athletic director is someone who does tremendous things for the historically-sound football program and lets another program with a great recent history completely collapse like a house of cards.

What do you expet him to do prior to last year? He made a hire and until last year that team made two NCAAs in a row with an Elite Eight appearance. Joe C didn't let anything collapse.

I just think that he needs to try just as hard on MBB as he does on everything else.

In what way? As I just said, the team was coming off an Elite Eight and a recruiting class with two McDAAs, where was the indication anything was wrong from an AD standpoint?

Should Rick Barnes be fired because he didn't win the national championship with Kevin Durant? After all, Durant has won a scoring title in the NBA and is by all accounts a top 5player overall. Calipari couldn't win a title with four first round draft picks last year. Should he be fired?

Calipari is going to have "down" year this season and probably still win 20+ games. Barnes has never missed a NCAA tournament at Texas. Apples to oranges comparison.

what are you smoking. We return all but one guy. We are bringing in...so far...The #3 juco player in the country, a transfer who should be our best player after sitting out a year, a RS freshman who can shoot the ball well. And not to mention that we have 2 scholarships still available.

Osby will definitely help at the 4, Goff will be an energy big off the bench. Taylor (coming out of high school) is not someone who was recruited as a shooter, so your description may be a little far fetched. Two extra scholarships? Maybe one if Hardrick leaves.

You just said BG wasn't a top 50 player in the nation his freshman year, won't elaborate further.

Well your theory isn't shared by a majority of Divison I basketball coaches...usually with young teams coaches play a softer schedule. You hear coaches all the time about trying to "teach your kids to win" at the collegiate level. Furthermore, our schedule to date hasn't been that tough, we are ranked will in the triple digits when it comes to SOS.

I agree about Joe Campbest, I'm not saying he's done a bad job considering what's happened. I'm saying he WILL do a bad job if he allows this mess to continue.

Given your stance on this issue, I question how much you "understand bball". Maybe you meant baseball which I could see given your comments... :)

Joe C is the real villain here. There is no excuse for this performance year after year.

Yeah there is no doubt that Joe made a mistake with Capel. Now he needs to admit and move on after this year. Capel has really destroyed a good program.

Although it may be a mistake I think it was a gamble worth trying. If it did work out potentially we could have had Capel for years to come. We would have had our coach for the next 20 years assuming he didnt leave.....
I dont blame Joe for making the gamble, but I do think at this point he needs to right the ship and bring in whatever proven coach we can...we cannot afford another gamble for the next 10-15 years...
