Lunardi still has us as a 5 seed?..I like that bracket too. hopefully the boys will play mad the rest of the year and get on some sort of run. all it takes is to get hot at the right time of the year (ask Baylor last year)

Also we are still ranked in both polls, so maybe the national pundits realize the tough schedule? Either way they need to win these close games and get the monkey off their back

The nation obviously giving this team some credit due to the tough schedule, but it still doesn't help ease the pain any. This team has to figure out how to finish these close games off. Way too much experience for this to be happening over and over and over and over again. :facepalm

Could you furnish us a list of the teams that aren't ranked that would be favored to beat OU on a neutral court?

This isn't relevant. Polls are not done like power rankings, and neither are NCAA seedings. "Are they one of the best 25 teams in the country?" is a different question than "Do they deserve to be ranked?" At this point their body of work doesn't deserve a top 25 ranking, IMO.

No. The rankings are the opinion of supposedly knowledgeable people of who they think are the best 25 teams from top to bottom in order. That is what ranking are. There is no template that defines a teams ranking based on a stand alone resume without considering relative strength as compared to other teams.

Now, back to my question. If you can not come up with a list of teams ranked lower or unranked that would be favored over OU on a neutral court, then, the rankings are validated. Either you didn't put much thought in to your original statement or you were just trying to flame the message board.

The football boo-hooing has permeated the basketball mentality unfortunately.

This team is one win short (KSU) of being right about where it should be. We have five fully capable players and three others that do well sometimes. And we're supposed to be some world-beater?

I love Kruger and what he's done here, but the lack of depth on this team is disturbing. It's scary to think where we'd be if Thomas hadn't won his coin flip.

With that logic, a team could, in theory, have a losing record at this point in the season and still be ranked, provided they lost a bunch of close games to quality teams and blew out their inferior competition. Said team might be one of the best 25 teams in the country, but records do matter.

I'm not saying OU isn't one of the best 25 teams in the country right now (they may be). But I wouldn't rank them in the top 25 at this point at 12-7 (3-4) when their best wins are Butler, Baylor, and @ Texas and they have a couple bad losses. If they go 3-1 or 4-0 in the next 2 weeks then I'd put them back in.

Why do you care what I think anyway? I have the right to say I don't think they deserve to be in the top 25 after losing 4 of their last 5. That's not unreasonable at all. And I don't know if there are or aren't 25 teams that would be favored over OU on a neutral court and I doubt you do either.

You are right. I don't know. That is why I haven't rendered a public opinion as to whether the ranking is valid or not. Lack of knowing didn't stop you.

The amount of whining that has taken place here since losing to Baylor reached absurd proportions late Saturday. I would have thought most would have gotten over it by now. Clearly I was wrong.

Try being objective. They have lost 4 of 5. And where did I whine?

lol at people thinking I'm "whining" or being unreasonable when I state that a 12-7 team ought not be ranked. Take your crimson glasses off.

They don't deserve to be ranked, nor be a 5 seed.

By win-loss, maybe you have a point. Maybe.

Keep in mind, though, this team played a ridiculous non-conference schedule. Loss to #6 (then-#2 Wisconsin). Very narrow loss to Creighton in their building. Loss to Washington on a neutral floor just outside of Pac-12 territory.

And then there's this crazy meatgrinder of a conference -- other than KSU, no team to which OU has lost is outside the national Top 25. And we beat the pi$$ out of Texas, a preseason Top-10, on their home floor, WITH Isaiah Taylor healthy. Already split with Baylor, who haven't yet been unranked.

A fringe Top-20 team with a high ceiling. That's what we are right now. Ranking seems about right.

Check the SOS.

Somewhere in the 20-30 range is about right for this point in the season.
