Buddy had the better freshman year and is a better athlete {i think)
Do you think Buddy can be our next Hollis and take us to a the Final 4 and another run at the elight8? Hollis had 3 Big 12 titles all tourneys do you think Buddy can lead us to 1 or 2? I Know some of it will come down to the supporting cast which we really wont know tell next year and the next couple of recruit classes we get.
Some of yall give me what yall think

Did he? Buddy scored 7.8 pts per game. Hollis scored 7.2 points per game. Hollis had a much better shooting percentage and was much more efficient. Buddy was a better rebounder.

Let's not too far out over our skiis. I think that the consensus is that Buddy is going to be a good one. Hollis was probably one of the best to come through the program. I wouldn't hang that mantle on Buddy just yet.

This. My take after one season of each is that Hollis was the better player. I think Hield has a bright future, I'm just not sure it's as bright as Hollis' was.

I am hoping he becomes better as we can have some stacked teams in his jr. and sr. year 15 16. Before injury he was really starting to thrive in big 12 play.

Was it Hollis frosh year he had to play out of position and play PG? Or was it his soph year? (when JR Raymond was suspended)

The team Hollis played on his frosh year was a much better roster than the roster this year. Najera, Nolan Johnson, Newton, Heskett, etc., so Hollis wasn't needed to score much and wasn't as depended on as Buddy this year.

I think Hollis was still the better player, but I like Buddy a lot.

Hollis might be the better player. I am just hoping Buddy works harder on making more 3s. He already has great D and can get rebounds and can be a team leader. i mainly just want OU to win another Big 12 title last time was 05 and last time to make a deep run in the NCAA was 09. I am hoping to get both of those in the 2014-15 or 2015-16 years.

Buddy was thrust into a bigger role than Hollis was during their freshmen years.

Some of you also seem to have an inflated view of Hollis' freshman year. He really struggled with ball handling and the speed of the game as a freshman. He made a HUGE leap during his soph year.

Hopefully Buddy will do something similar.

Here is a blurb from Soonersports about Hollis' freshman season:
1999-00
A member of Big 12 All-Freshman Team ... A starter in 22 games, including 20 of last 21 (did not start on team's senior day) ... Averaged 7.2 points, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game ... Averaged 7.7 points, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals in Big 12 action ... Shot .448 from field, .373 from three-point range and a team-high .833 from free throw line ... Scored at least 10 points in seven of last nine games ... Recorded at least three assists in 21 games and two or more steals in 14 contests ... Boasted a 1.9 assist/turnover ratio to rank fourth in Big 12 ... Led team in assists in 11 of last 13 games ... His 3.5 assists per game were most by an OU freshman since Terry Evans averaged 4.4 in 1989-90 ... Averaged 11.9 points and 5.2 assists over last nine games ... Played 47 of 50 minutes in double-overtime win over league champion Iowa State ... Scored a career-high 20 points versus Texas Tech Feb. 23, handed out a career-high nine assists versus Missouri Feb. 26 and recorded a career-high five steals the next game at Texas A&M ... Converted 36 of his last 40 free throw attempts (.900).

The biggest reason I give Hollis a decisive edge over Hield after one year is that Hield regressed (before his injury even), while Hollis got decidedly better during conference play. That, and the obvious shooting percentage differences. Hollis assisted the ball better, and Buddy rebounded it better. No surprises there.

In your opinion of course, which I don't agree with.

Hollis was money down the stretch of that season and played really well for a true frosh. He won the Mizzou game for us in the Big 12 tourney with clutch free throws in a hostile environment.

I will admit their games are very similar, but Hollis has the edge due to the fact he was a better shooter. Buddy really struggled down the stretch of this season with his shooting. He made impacts in other parts of the game and I like him a lot. I think his ceiling may be higher than Hollis, though, because Buddy just started playing basketball a few years ago (I think that's what I read). By the time Buddy is a senior we may all be discussing if he was as good as Hollis in HP's sr year and if that happens then we've had some good teams and special years with Hield on the floor.

A lot of that can be attributed to a broken foot, which Hollis did not have to deal with as a Freshman.

Hollis was a below average ball handler as a senior .. (one of the reasons he had no shot at the NBA) .. he was pretty terrible as a frosh ..

Hollis was a very good shooter. And I think he brought a lot of intangibles to the team.

If Buddy becomes as good a shooter as Hollis I give the edge to Buddy. Better at creating his shot and a better rebounder. Also a knack at making those "wow" plays. I don't have an opinion as to which one will be the better defender but Buddy is pretty good at that.

It will depend a lot on how well Buddy develops his outside shot. He has a better inside game that Hollis. Hollis probably quicker.

Buddy was a much better defender as a freshman IMO. Also helps he is taller and has even longer arms for his height.

I agree Buddys D is awesome. It leads to a lot of steals and points. His rebounding gets him a lot of put back points. I believe his 3 ball will only get better with him being a gym rat.

Not true. Go look at his game logs and you'll see several games where he struggled before the foot injury.

When he was a starter for 13 straight games after coming off bench for first 10 he got on fire scoring more points rebounds and assists and was 1 of the best players we had.Had he not broke his foot he might have even gotten better and still played 4 good games when he came back just a little rusty. He was awesome last year and everyone loved him and was calling him the next Hollis Price.

I didn't say Hollis Price was the better player.

Yes you did. Indirectly. Shooting percentage alone puts Hollis out in front.

And for those that want to point to defense, Hollis as a freshman averaged more steals per game than Hield as a freshman. And Hollis was part of a better "team defense" as well. You'd be hard pressed to produce actual "proof" of Hield being the better defender after one season. People are just in love with Hield's defense because he gets up into guys, and causes problems that way. Reminds people of Billy's teams or something.
