Buddy

Does he averge 20 a game next year?

Unlikely... I would expect Cousins, Spangler, Woodard, and Booker to improve next year and OU to remain a very balanced team. To average 20 a game requires you to be the focal point of an offense, which doesnt really suit Lon Kruger's style.

He could average 20 if he/they wanted/needed him to, but there are lots of scoring options on the floor. Plus, OU should be more efficient in the paint next year with the new guys coming in.

If he plays 2 good halves more often, he might. But I'm not sure he'll need to with all the talent we have coming back and if the bigger guys we have coming in do well. There's a lot of areas Buddy needs to improve in. Particularly his ball handling.

I think he'll average about 18, and get into the high 20s or low 30s a few times.
Cousins will probably average around 15 next year, Woodard and Spangler around 12. Booker and Hornbeak off the bench probably 8-10 each. Whatever the new guys bring. Just too many scoring options for Buddy to get THAT many points consistently.

20ppg is a lot to average. I'd say no, but if for some reason OU needed him to average 20, I think he might could, though probably not as efficiently as he could average 16-18.

Id rather ask if buddy is gonna get back to defending again instead of turning into melo light.

Mercede...if our offense stays the same, and our defense and rebounding improves by just a bit next year, we will be lethal. I think we can be even more efficient on the offensive end, and amp up the defensive intensity with the addition of three bigs who are high level athletes.

That would be my question too. The off season will probably be a time to reset and restart several processes.

Handles need to get tighter. He needs to start driving again. He's fallen in love with the 3. He's a decent shooter but he should be hoisting 4-5 a game not 10-12

That's exactly what I was thinking! He's the one player who can take it to the hole and create his own shot The key to his scoring average is to have better balance in how he scores. He needs to take what the defense gives him and not make up his mind too soon. Patience.

I don't think there is much basis for the opinion that he should drive more. Hield takes about 50% of his shots from 3 point range. He shoots approximately 40% from 3 and 45% on all attempts. That means he shoots about 50% on all two point attempts. I suspect he makes a higher percentage on finishing on the break, offensive rebounds, back door cuts and mid range jumpers than driving. This means his percentage on dribble penetration is lower than 50%.

If you call it 50% he scores 100 points on 100 attempts. From three he scores 120 points on 100 attempts. You could argue he should only shoot 3 point shots but it is important to mix up your play to keep the defense honest. I have a feeling the coaching staff has all of this charted and knows exactly whether he is taking too many shots or not enough shots from 3 point range. I certainly would if I were the coach.
