I've been pretty sure for a while that he's going to declare but I've since changed my mind. He's staying.

That probably means he'll declare for the draft tomorrow.

If it happens I'm blaming you!

There seems to be a ton of stud undergrads entering early ...... 7 just from Kentucky. It just seems like more than usual. I think he stays because he's probably mid-second round now.

I don't think Buddy has ever been a 1st round pick.

I think he'll come back for that reason, but again, as I've said all along, if being a 1st round pick isn't the only reason he was looking at leaving, he still may leave. Have no idea why he is even entertaining the idea.

But I'll say he stays.

Its close for me but ill say he comes back. I have seen a few posters who think the Harrison twins will for sure go ahead of him and I disagree there. I think Buddy is a better player than both and I've read a few pieces that said a lot of NBA scouts aren't very high on the twins.

I see predictions everywhere from low 20's to the upper 40's pick. What a decision that would be for someone. You might make $900k or you might get sent to the D-league and make squat. I guess you can make a lot more going overseas... Tough decision.

Question is.... what is he risking by coming back?

Injury
A bad year
Worse percentages which cast doubt
Age

Of course... he could stay healthy, have a better year, increase percentages, etc. He is going to get older though. No stopping that. Older = lower value.

I am not saying you are wrong about age but I personally don't get it. So few guys have a 10+ year NBA career. If you have the talent to play in the NBA there is zero reason you cannot do it at 32 other than desire. I personally think anyone with the ability can play until they are 35 baring injury and burn out. I just don't think many people start to deteriorate in ability prior to that age.

I'm on record saying he's coming back. The draft is deepening where he was being projected, he has things about his game that really need tightening up, he's close to getting his degree, and we potentially have a helluva team returning.

I think he has put a few subtle hints out there letting ou and fans know he may be gone...like saying the future is bright next season no matter what he decides.

i think he is likely playing overseas next season, and that would be ok with him.

I really, really hope I'm wrong!

This. Everything this.

Hahaha. Let me know how many 35 year olds there are in the nba this season.

There are more than you would think. Look at the Spurs. Boehner, Diaw, Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker have all played 11 seasons or more. Guys that have the talent can play until they are 35.

It happens with a lot of players, particularly the great players; however, most players don't have the talent to even play 5 years in the NBA. It isn't their age that holds them back, they simply are not one of the top 450 players in the world for more than a brief period of time. Every single year new guys come into the league that are better than many of the journeymen and a few are better than the starters. That is why age shouldn't matter all that much in my opinion.

Nick Collison is 34 and will turn 35 this year. He was really never a full time starter but he had a long NBA career because his ability was always in the top 450 even though it was not really in the top 150 his entire career.

Not many. I googled this factoid below:

The average NBA player will make $24.7 million in his career. That is based on an average salary of $5.2 million and an average career length of 4.8 years and is $18.6 million more than the career earnings for the average NFL player ($6.1 million).

So maybe the average career of any professional basketball player is 4-5 years, regardless of where he plays. That illustrates the need to plan for life after basketball…… and get it while you can.
