I wish him the best of luck. Still think there is a better reason why he left...

I averaged 14 pts in the tourney, and it wasn't for me. Sounds pretty good to me...whatever.

I talked to a former coach of his a few months ago and he said he told Calvin he should stick it out at Oklahoma and Calvin didnt listen. Kid made up his mind and left. No use crying over spilled milk. Good luck to him. I like what we have coming in. I trust Kruger and think we will be back in the tourney as early as this season.

If a kid doesn't want to be a part of the program, why worry about it?

There was more to him leaving then simply thinking he deserved to start. He was a good kid and didn't have a bad attitude by any means. Some kids just don't respond to constant "verbal motivation" that some teachers/coaches seem to think should work for everyone. The key to being a successful teacher, coach, manager or anyone else in a position of authority is finding the best way to properly motivate your players, students or employees.

I wish him the best. I think he's a talented player.

It's certainly possible that Coach Kruger misread Newell and used the wrong approach with him, but I seriously doubt that an experienced, successful coach like LK feels that the same approach works for every student-athlete.

As you said, the key is finding the best way to properly motivate your players, but I suspect that even the best coaches choose the wrong approach with a talented player now and then.
