The kid just looks like a player... He certainly wouldnt be the first 6'1'' shooting guard to have a big career at Oklahoma. I think he could develop into a JR Raymond type of player. Just a big time scorer.

JR Raymond was 6'1'' 175 pounds and was a very good player for Sampson. Kid could light it up! Of course, JR shot over 40% from 3pt range during his career but he averaged 11 one year and 13 another. I think Calvin has the talent and athletic ability to do that.

I totally agree, the issue with Calvin is that he didn't play his natural position last year, He's a 2. Let him play the running 2 and watch him score like he did against Sac State

Agreed, far too many people wrote him off last year. A lot of upside

I agree. I think the past regime could have found a better way to use him and improve his confidence.

There were several times he was playing better than Blair but would be taken out and never got off the bench....not sure why.

If i remember correctly, lots of major programs were recruiting him

Wow, you sure have changed your tune on Calvin! Just 3 weeks ago you said you'd be fine if he left the team. Why the sudden change of heart??

I have always like Newell, you can teach a kid a lot of things, but to teach a kid to be a scorer isnt going to happen very often. Its on of those things that you have it or you dont.
But he has to be at the 2.

Newell may well turn out to be a really good player, but have you guys forgotten how good JR really was? Kelvin said on numerous occasions that he was one of the most talented guys he ever brought to Norman. Without the offcourt issues he would have been close to a 1500 pt scorer in just 3 years. I would be happy if CN could turn out the be 3/4 the player JR was.

Again, this is not a knock on Newell. I just can't see him becoming the player JR was, or would have been. I think Calvin is probably a slightly better athlete but does not have the feel or pace that JR had.

I'm not as high on Newell as some of you are, but I do think in time, LK might be able to turn him into a pretty good player.

I'd still like to see us as a pure scoring guard this offseason. Somebody that can just fill it up.

Well, I had kind of already made up my mind that he was transferring. I kept thinking he was gone right as the season ended. But he must love OU, because he says all the right things, wants to be a part of the program, and has stayed through all the turmoil.

He's now my favorite player on the team, and I do think he could develop into a JR Raymond type.

I think people have written off both Calvin and Mr. Blair, and I think both will surprise people...as Bob Stoops says...in a good way next season.

I believe you're right, ben. But of the two, I think more people have written off Blair. I expect Blair Jr. to be really solid at the point next year. And I believe it would take a very talented freshman or JC transfer to replace him in the starting lineup next year.

Blair frustrated a lot of people last year (including me) with his turnovers, but I think people overlook the fact that he had some really nice games for us. If he can learn to protect the basketball better I think he can be a solid player in this conference. He's never going to be a world changing player, but he's also not a "D-III point guard" like some people stated last season.

Exactly. Blair and Newell were both young last year. They will improve.

The reason Calvin didn't play much SG is because we only had two PGs but we had Pledger, Cade and Clark that could all play the off guard spot.

The other reason he didnt play much at PG or SG is because he would immediatly come in and turn the ball over, most of the time really bad turnovers.

I expect him to improve. It's a big adjustment playing streetball in HS and then having to play PG or SG in D1 college without turning the ball over. For all we know in HS he scored 28 ppg, but had 8 TO's per game.

Exactly. By the way, I like your new user name.

I think he has a chance to be a good player.
