He has the size. He can play defense and he can get to the rim. Does anyone think he could be NBA potential?

I think we need to really see how his 3pt shot develops

Highly unlikely.... Let's think about this for a second:

  • He cant shoot to save his life
  • He is very one dimensional
  • About 0.0001% of all OU basketball players have ever played in the NBA (this is true for nearly all programs, its just that those guys are so insanely good)

That being said, he is my favorite player on the team and I could see him becoming a modern era Nolan Johnson type of player. I think he will end up being a fan favorite and a heckuva player for the program.

I don't see it. Needs a better outside shot. Won't be able to take small guards to the hole like he sometimes does now.

Really pleased with his progress though.

I think he can. Has the size & range coveted for a guard. Needs to develop a right hand & continue to work on his shot but his form already looks a ton better than in high school. He also plays defense, rebounds, & passes very well.

One great game doesn't make him suddenly a pro. He's struggled a lot this year.

You need to look at his performances against teams which absolutely will not allow him to drive to the basket and base your analysis on that. If your retort is he will improve his outside shot then that is a "what if" at best. Until he does it how can one truly recognize if he has the talent to compete in the NBA.

Agreed. A lot can happen in 2 years.

Buddy struggled a lot his sophomore year too.
A lot can happen in 2 years but I'm just saying hold on the break peddle a bit. Odomes is every bit as inconsistent as James is. Really the only consistently good player we've had is McGusty.

Remember, James played a lot last year. Odomes barely played at all until the end of the Villanova game. So this is Rashard first year of playing this much in college. He has a much higher ceiling than does James and better height than McGusty. His height gives him a better chance to make it than McGusty or James, however he has to develop his 3 point shot. I think he can do that with this coaching staff.

But, if he doesn't then he surely won't play much in the NBA.

The thing about Odomes is how he scored his 27 points against OSU -- he was making dunks, layups, 6-foot floaters -- all because of how athletic he is and his ability to slash in/out of the lane. That is more reproducible than making jump shots. Which is why I think that Odomes will continue to produce at a high level and become consistent.

To answer the question "can" he play in the NBA? Definitely. Is he ready now? We would all agree no. However, he has incredible sizing for a two guard and honestly has shown great signs of being an elite defender. Which I think by his senior year he will be. As well as he is extremely athletic. It is super impressive when a guy is able to weave through traffic and dunk.

Honestly, I was impressed he took some shots last game (and made a couple). They are clearly working on his shot and therefore he doesn't have a ton of confidence in it. He will though. Personally believe that he and Doolittle have the best chance to make it to the next level. Based on potential due to their size and athletically.

He's got to develop the ability to shoot from the perimeter.

Candidly, I don't think he is an NBA player, but he can definitely make a very healthy living overseas if he wants.
