Capel has established a solid base.

I don't really see a system here that can make a team solid. I think talent not being enough is just an excuse just like it was his first year. There was enough talent to win a lot of games that year just like there's probably enough right now. This has been said a lot recently but after 5 years what exactly is the system we have on both sides? I don't think Capel has any type of identity as a coach as far as on the floor. Our identity is literally one player and you can't really build a system with that.

PG - Newell
SG - Clark
SF - Neal
PF - Fitz

With Goff and Osby coming in that gives us 6 legit Big XII caliber players. We need to add a couple more in this recruiting class. Maybe Pledger can find his shot and become the spot up shooter we expected and maybe TJ Tyler can be a solid backup at the 2 which would give us 8 legit Big XII caliber players.

We are closer to being a good team than people realize.

Capel is a terrible coach, this team has lost how many games in the last 15? We have lost 4 in a row this year. Capel has lost over 33 games by double digits. He is a finger pointer blaming the players and the fans. How many players has he ran off in the last 5 years?

It is time to make a change. The fan base will agree with me. OU will have its worst fan sport since before Tubbs. The OU women will average 35% more fans in the stands.

OU is the worst team in the big 12 this year.

I have zero confidence this coach can turn the ship around.

If you are happy with the direction of the program good luck.

I'm curious as to what you mean by "legit Big 12 caliber players"?
Sorry but not one of those guys would start on the top 4 or 5 Big 12 teams this year. Not one. This is OU not Nebraska.

hey troll, who said anything about this year? 3 of the guys I listed are true freshmen, 1 is a soph. A base is for the future. The question is whether those guys will be good enough to start on a top 4 Big XII team in the next 3 years and the answer is yes.

Seriously what kind of loser spends so much time on an opposing teams message board? They say Kansas basketball is a religion and it is. For the biggest dorks in the nation.

DISCLAIMER
Unfortunately the board will be as miserable as it became during the " Pumpers vs " Cleti" feud at the end of the Sampson era. You have posters who will show up for every game, and they will post in the official game thread about how awful the coach is. You then will get those who want to argue with them and defend the current coach, and eventually you will see the board become a constant feud over if the coach should go or stay

The worst part about it is that Sooner fans who come here to just support the team no matter who the admin hires/fires/keeps/etc, get lost in the shuffle, or just grow tired of the pissing matches and leave. I wanted to follow the game in the game thread tonight, but avoided it because I knew that it would be similar to the OF threads during games.

Sadly, neither side will back off because you have 5-10 posters who just have to be right, and they have to interject their " expertise" into every thread on the board.....:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

Wow Prophetic Post

I go back and forth on whether we should fire Capel after this year....I guess my optimism is that he can pull some recruits out of the bag and my pessimism is that he probably won't and regardless of whether or not he does, the team will not "put it together." He won with toughness in his early years, but they were all Sampson's players (except Blake and that's arguable).

At the end of the day, I say there are a ton of coaches out there who can "put it together" as well as recruit really well. Especially at OU, where it's been done for a quarter century by multiple coaches. We need to go ahead and pull the trigger, and get a top flight coach in here (or another hot young coach w/ a good rep) and see what we can do.

It's a shame TMG and Gallon were such idiots and that they have basically sunk Capel (give Warren some credit for that too). But it starts and stops with Capel; he is the guy who entrusted his regime to a pair or trio of dopes.

Is that an euphemism for Capel finding a permanent place in the Big 12 basement?

You're a classy guy. :facepalm

How in the world can you say Newell, Neal & Clark are starters on a top 4 Big 12 in the future?
They've shown nothing of the sorts.

Clark hasn't shown it but it is reasonable statement for Clark. He would get minutes on any team in the Big XIi as a true freshman and actually might be doing better on many teams due to less pressure and better teammates

A solid base, but is he the right coach for that base? Nice guy, sure, but can he coach these players properly? I'm sorry, but the jury is out on Jeff Capel.
