Capel on the radio today with Hale (Quotes now included)

Sounded to me like WW & TMG may be gone(I hope not)Coach Capel better pull some rabbits out of the hat or OU fans are going to be setting through a tough year next season. With the economy & the OKC Thunder taking off, seats will be hard to fill.We all ready know what pullin you boot strap up & taken your lunch pale kind of guys did for the fans.GO SOONERS!!!!!!!
Seats are going to hard to fill if we aren't any good. If we have something like 9-1 or 10-0 start we'll have a lot of well attended games.

Thanks for taking such good notes. My hats off to you for being able to catch all of that while typing...you are much more talented than I. :clap

Next, the quote about "knowing in a few weeks who is staying and who is going" and then the final quote where he doesn't mention TMG just sounds too much like TMG won't be back. TMG was a very good offensive player, and one would think he would be considered a "building block". He was 3rd team all-conference and on the frosh all-conference 1st team for goodness sakes...he wasn't just overlooked, I can promise you that.

I think Capel didn't mention TMG because his place on the team goes without saying. He was referring to players who have yet to fully develop. Say what you want about TMG's defense, but you don't boot a kid who can score and move the ball like that.

Chances TMG returns next year: 100%

I think this past season has made everyone paranoid about which player is staying or which player is going. If TMG does leave then it will go down as one of the biggest wtf moments in OU basketball history. I personally don't see him leaving but if he does OU basketball will survive regardless. OU basketball was here before TMG and it will be here after-wards whenever that will be.

Keep telling yourself that. If it were 100%, he wouldn't have said after the osu game "I have some things to talk about with Coach Capel, but right now I'm probably going to return". (Tiny's affirmation was much closer to 100% than TMG) Then you have Capel's comments tonight.

Point guard is the most critical spot on the floor, and the head coach was a point guard. So that should tell you how important the position is to him. If Capel thought with 100% certainty that TMG is returning don't you think he would have mentioned his starting point guard as a "building block"? Instead he mentions Cade Davis, and 2 part-time starters in Fitz and Pledger and then he even mentions Tiny, but not his starting point guard?

TMG might be back, but I can promise you it's not 100% right now.

Maybe he's not getting booted? Maybe he's going to Europe or transferring? It's a 2 way street...the kid can leave on his own and/or the coach can make him leave.

Thanks for the breakdown on the interview, OUHoops. Well done!

One thing really stood out to me because it sounds like Coach Capel has a pretty good idea about who OU will sign in the late period:

"I feel good about the guys we're going to bring in and sign here in the late period. We need to get back to those blue collar guys, aren't afraid to work and do the little things."

I thought that was also a telling comment. Is he saying some of the "prima donnas" they have brought in the past don't work as hard? The 2nd sentence tells me they didn't recruit any "blue collar guys" who "aren't afraid to work and do the little things" last year.

If Capel can follow thru on his comments, then he may get this deal turned around. We will see...

It also sounds like his mind is made up on who is leaving...

I think we must be producing a great generation of potential political reporters. It takes talent to say so much with so few facts.

I'd say an 80% chance for TMG coming back and a 60% chance of WW coming back. That's my guess on the percentages.

No kidding... :ez-laugh:

I agree, sybarite. But I do believe a certain amount of "reading between the lines" can be taken from Coach Capel's comments.

James said on the air today that he thought TMG was 50/50.
Said it was strange Capel never brought him up and he wished he would have specifically asked about TMG.
