I really hope the hype is legit...

Our scout team is really pushing us in practice. I think those guys having to go against Romero (Osby) every day is really challenging. He dominates our practices. We haven’t played against anyone better during conference play than what these guys face in practice every day (in Osby). So I think that is really helping them. We are starting to get a little bit better in guarding him in practice, which I think has given us a little bit more confidence as we get into games.”

If people believe the hype of a player it's because they want to believe it.

I just hope he's not doing Romero a disservice by hyping him so much. It's going to put a lot of pressure on him next year.

I am not buying the hype, until Osby plays at OU I will wait to see how good he is.

I hope Osby turns out to be great, I do remember Capel hyping Ryan Wright as well, not to that extreme though.

If he was so good how the hell was he getting bench minutes at a middle level SEC school. And the SEC is a horrible basketball conference right now.

Maybe because he was a freshman then. People do mature and get better you know.
I'm not saying he will be great or anything but just having him and Goff which are athletic big men plus Fitz and OU will have what looks like a nice front court next year. Add Cam at the 3 and OU looks solid there.
If capel can get a couple of guards that can play right away and OU will be a lot better.

Some of that is coaches spin. Especially when you have a crucial year like Capel has coming up. I think he's speaking the truth as far as athletically in the post.

+1

If Osby isn't what Capel is hyping him to be, it could get bad for Osby.

Athletically, Osby and Goff may be upgrades, but do they have basketball talent? Sure, they can probably jump high and run fast, and do all the athletic stuff, but do they know how to put a body on somebody and block out? Do they know how to defend the post or a solid power forward without simply fouling? Can they not only dunk but make a turnaround jumper?

As somebody else said, Capel also hyped Wright who was very athletic, but just wasn't a very good basketball player, although I'd love to have him this year.

He was behind a couple guys that are now in the league and he wasn't getting along with the coach, who was trying to make him a back to the basket player.

Stansbury seems like a players coach and he's been pretty successful in Starkville. So, the fact he didn't get along with the coach isn't a good sign, but I don't follow MSU much so I could be very wrong on this.

Switzer was a players coach and very successful but not every player got along with him either.

I've seen Osby play a couple of times at the Huff just practicing with the teams. He is easily the best three point shooter on the team, didn't miss a single one. He is the best post player. He could probably hold his own the Morris twins from Kansas.

yes, he is a great player. Probably will average a double double next year.

Probably at least some spin there. OU's played A&M, UT and Baylor, and if Osby's better than anyone on any of those three teams he's going to be a lotto pick after next year. That's be a pretty huge jump from what he did at MSU.

Hopefully this is accurate and a true indication of what he can do next year, but I worry a bit that it is a coach trying to make sure people want to keep him around for another year. The worrying is based on past history

Either way, I don't think it does anyone any good to say it unless it is just obviously accurate to everyone in the program.

Multiple independent qualified sources who have observed OU practice have stated that Osby is a "stud" and "the best player on the team".

Poor Capel haters. The guy is going to be revered for executing his second turnaround at OU in such a short timeframe in only his mid 30s.

Hopefully he won't put us in a position again where he has to turnaround OU basketball again.

I think Roe will be fine as in as far as being able to handle the hype. From what I've heard he is a very mature young man who is strong and driven to succeed. I don't think the things that Capel say are going to hurt him next year.

I'm buying. The people that I talk to say the kid has the goods.... We need Osby to be the bizness......
