Not trying to pile on Capel, but he said something going back to last year, and said it multiple times, and I always wondered what he meant. He said more than once, "Blake Griffin made it 'cool' to come to OU" referring to getting good players in recruiting. My question is, even with our very good basketball tradition, was it ever "uncool" to come to OU before we lucked out and had Blake Griffin in our backyard? Is that how Capel looked at it, or is that how it really is to recruits? Didnt we get good players before Griffin? Just sometimes wondered if that was a recruiting excuse. There have been times when it's been VERY COOL to come to play basketball at OU. I mean, we just had a terrible season win/loss, but we have good facilities, tradition, etc. Why would he make that quote?

Maybe because BG is almost a once-in-a-lifetime player...

I always thought he was talking about burger boy level recruits.

i took it as him meaning in-state mc'ds level players coming to ou...

I think it was a little more about out of state guys. OU wasn't really on the radar of most elite out of state players. This was not a crack at OU's rich tradition. Whether it's fair or not, it takes someone like Blake to reach the conscience of AAU kids. Guys outside of Oklahoma don't grow up wanting to be Hollis Price. Guys outside of Oklahoma do grow up wanting to be Blake Griffin.
