He's a 6-7 combo forward who is all kinds of athletic and has been ranked in the Top 50/100 at times and he has the attitude we need. Check out this quote from a Rivals article yesterday.

"I want people to see that I'm athletic and that I'm someone who will play D," Washburn said. "I hate being scored on."

And this quote from his coach.......

McDade added: "He's a tremendous athlete. He's very smooth and makes great natural basketball plays. He's an excellent defender. The last couple of games, he's guarded the one [point guard] through the four [power forward]. A serious plus for us is that he brings more confidence to the team."

He didn't play the first semester after transferring to a school in New Jersey. Now he's back at Duncanville and averaging double figures playing alongside Perry Jones.

The article says he's getting interest from Big 12 schools, Kentucky, Marquette, Seton Hall etc. I hope that we're one of those Big 12 schools.

I hope so too. I'll take anybody over 6-7 that we can get right now. I'd like 3 of him.

i'm confused...should we go after athletes or bball players?

How about both? That's Washburn and he's no joke. His dad also played in the NBA. Watch his video on Rivals if you can, and that is from the summer before his junior year. He's ranked 95th by them. The fact that Kentucky is trying to get in on him is all I need to know.

Has he expressed interest in OU? If Capel is not pursuing him, maybe this is why.

Yes, he did last summer before he moved to New Jersey. Now he's back at Duncanville and the article says he's getting interest from Kentucky and "Big 12 Schools".

Scout's shows Washburn has an offer from OU, but don't know if their database is current? Their last update on the kid was in December, 2008. There is no doubt that he was a big time recruit once, though. He reportedly had offers from UT, ATM and OU, plus several other schools like UCLA, Zona, Okie State, USC and KU were showing interest.

Here's a portion of the article Eric Bossi wrote in Washburn's junior season. I don't think he will mind if I post a couple of quotes at this late date:

“Right now, I think my game is bringing energy and playing some defense,” said Washburn. “I can also make some jumpers and get out and play in transition.”

A natural combo forward who excels along either baseline, Washburn is a long and athletic player who is quite versatile. He’s started knocking down mid range jumpers with regularity, gets on the offensive glass and is an exciting open court finisher. Looking down the road, though, he sees himself playing exclusively on the wing.

“I think I’m a three, definitely a three,” Washburn told Phog.Net. “I want people to recruit me as a three because I’m going to be small for a four man in college.”

I guess my only reservation is that his strengths appear to mirror Cam Clark in some ways. But with Crocker leaving after this season, I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. You can never have too many athletic wings who bring energy to the floor, play good defense and knock down mid-range jumpers. He's definitely a player worth considering.

Sure hope our coaches don't drag their feet waiting on Jones, Aziz or whoever our top recruits are at the moment, and get caught on the outside looking in again, with another solid player who could help us next year. Just sayin'...

Washburn to you 23, is like Elijah Pittman. A guy who I thought was under the radar and talented. I have never saw Washburn play to offer an opinion, but If the versatylity talk is correct about him, I can see him being a Tony Crocker type player. Problem is, if you're going to play on the wing, you need to be a scoring threat. I think alot of people don't see him being able to be a scoring threat on the next level.

I have seen Washburn play 3 times. He's a solid player but I don't think he projects well to the Big12 or similar league. Just one man's opinion.

BCG was at the Duncanville vs Wylie playoff game last night. There are rumors that Penders is out at Houston and BCG would be in. Washburn at Houston would make sense if you are connecting the dots.

Ah, the joys of recruiting when you don't currently have a job and aren't bound by those nasty NCAA guidelines.

I saw Julian once this summer, had a good motor, good athletic ability but seem limited on offense. Was relying on post moves and didn't have much of a jumper. My first initial thought is he would've been a good fit for Mizzou (good 4 in their press) or OSU (4 guard stuff), ironic now given our post issues and me being happen with a guy like that. I think he might be a little stronger right now then Cam so I guess he could be better at banging if needed. Maybe I am giving him too much credit, probably am but I guess he could end up being Taylor Griffin like.
