EDIT: I just noticed that this blurb is from Tuesday's KC Star...sorry

New Mizzou coach Frank Haith has not set his coaching staff but said he anticipated former MU assistant Melvin Watkins would go with Mike Anderson to Arkansas rather than stay on at MU under a third different head coach.

“He’s done a great job with Mike and I think he’s going to be there,” Haith said.

As far as speculation that former OU head coach Jeff Capel might wind up on Haith’s MU staff, Haith said: “Time will tell. I like Jeff. I think Jeff’s a great guy.”

How far some fall. Why would Capel want to stay in the Big 12?? He should go be an assistant in the ACC or SEC.

He should just give up coaching and enjoy his nice start to early retirement. Invest that money right and he won't have to work again.

That's been pretty well shot down recently (as you noted in your edit).

Names being thrown around include Derek Thomas (currently at Detroit, who I believe has a head coach who worked under Sampson at one point... Thomas had head coaching experience and is very, very well connected in St. Louis) and Tim Fuller at Louisville (recruited to Wake Forest when Haith was an assistant there, served as Director of Basketball Ops at Miami for awhile, spent time working as an AAU field consultant for Nike before going to Louisville... sounds like a potential lights out recruiter).

Capel to Mizzou as an assistant probably has zero chance of happening.

I hope that you are right and that this stuff will go away...

@kaufsports of Miami Herald reports Miami is considering Tommy Amaker, Jeff Capel, Mike Davis, Billy Kennedy, Chris Mooney, & John Pelphrey

I’ve learned over the past 6 months that Saywer is wrong on all of his Mizzou coaching/conference realignment/player qualifying posts on here.

So, Capel will definitely be an assistant coach at Mizzou....:D

Man, if Capel got frustrated at the fan support in Oklahoma, he's going to go insane at Miami...

Not exactly. You can take me out of it completely, and you should have far more than six months to back up your rule.

Basically, it goes like this: if there is a chance that Mizzou could get kicked in the nuts, it will. Call it Mizzou's Law.

And since Capel to Mizzou doesn't really fit into the "kicked in the balls" category, the "take the opposite of whatever Sawyer says" approach isn't in play.

haha I gotcha.

More info on Mizzou's coaching search (only relevant to OU fans insomuch as it relates to Capel NOT being in the mix):

Random guy on twitter posted that Dave Leitao (assistant at UConn, HC and DePaul/Virginia) and Tim Fuller (described above) will be added to Mizzou's staff. Don't know anything about the original tweeter, but Capel's name never comes up at this point. Other than one report attributed to anonymous sources, he never has been mentioned.

I would think Leitao would be a solid asst coach. He did pretty good at depaul but bombed at UVa, but most coaches at UVa struggle.

I wouldn't necessarily say he bombed. He did have at least one really good year (2007 ACC coach of the year).

His last win as head coach at DePaul was a win in Mizzou Arena against Quin/Arthur Johnson/Rickey Paulding in the NIT (most disappointing Mizzou team in my time as a fan).

Capel might thrive at a place like Miami. He might be a great fit there. He wasn't here, but he is young. I think he probably learned a lot from his time here.

I know a lot people want to dog him. But I wish him luck.
