When is the last time you've seen a coach's stock fall this far, this fast? We are less than 2 years removed from an elite 8 appearance yet today our program is in the gutter. After the 08-09 season we were all worried about Capel leaving us and he was given a big raise, and now the majority of fans seem to want him fired. I am racking my brain trying to think of another coach in any sport that has had their stock drop as far and as rapidly as Capel's has. Quin Snyder maybe? Eustachy?

Eustachey may be the guy. Snyder was pretty much going down hill from the Elite 8 year on till he was fired 3 or 4 years later.

Eustachey was one of the top coaches in the conference then started partying with college students as creepy old guy.

Well I have to admit I don't recall how the eustachy thing exactly went down, did his teams' performances drop off significantly prior to him being fired or was it due mostly to off the court issues?

His teams did go down a bit. But he basically was caught at college parties in Missouri and Kansas State and probably others, I just don't recall at this point. And pictures showed upon the internet. He later admitted that he was an alcoholic and eventually resigned.

I'm trying to think of a coach with no personal or ncaa compliance issues that just absolutely fell off a cliff very suddenly from a performance standpoint.

I just laugh because I know a guy just like Larry Eustachy...minus the basketball coach part.

Matt Doherty at UNC, was coach of the year his first year, then went 8-20 the next year, then fired after year three.

Doherty has continued to crash out, the fact he still has a job at SMU is a joke. Matt is in his fifth year at the school and his best finish is 7th in Conference USA.

Former Michigan coach, Steve Fisher, may be a better example.

When Bill Frieder went to ASU, Fisher was named interim coach, but later got the job permanently after UM won the national title. In other words, he was the lucky recipient of a team Frieder signed that included a pretty good player in Glen Rice.

To Fisher's credit, he managed to sign perhaps the best recruiting class ever the following year, appropriately named the "Fab Five." That team reached the finals in two straight seasons; losing to Duke in the first and then UNC in the second. The Wolverines never came close to achieving that level of success again under Fisher, or any other coach for that matter. Three years later Fisher was fired. Last I heard he was coaching in relative obscurity at San Diego State.

That's the basketball equivalent of going from the penthouse to the outhouse in coaching terms. I don't mean the schools. I'm talking about the level of success Fisher achieved back then with help from Glen Rice and later the Fab Five, compared to what he has done since that time.

Fisher does have his Aztecs undefeated and ranked #6 right now...he has been mildly successful in the Mountain West.

Frightening prospect.

The football coach at Rutgers was up for the Alabama job and now is never mentioned.

I was a UM fan when we lived there in the 70s. I switched my allegiance to OU when we moved to Oklahoma in the late 70s, but continued to follow UM as my second favorite team. Thus, I knew Fisher had achieved success to some extent at SDSU. I didn't know until you mentioned it that the Aztecs were ranked #6 and having a great year.

To be honest, OU's off-the-court problems and lack of success the past two seasons have dampened my enthusiasm for college basketball to the point that I can't bring myself to sit down and watch a complete game anymore. I have been a college BB nut for decades; one who usually watches 100 games or more every season. Even my wife has noticed the change. We talked about it last night. She was too nice to say it, but I'm sure she's secretly happy I haven't been glued to the television since early November. lol

Glad I'm not the only one that his has happened to...hell, my wife is a huge CBB fan and even she cannot stand to watch any CBB this year because OU is so awful (she is also an OU alum and big OU fan).

I've actually gone from mad to saddened and unfortunately apathy is starting to kick in. A horrible, horrible sign.

Add a toddler in my household doesn't help my lack of time to watch CBB or even the gut punch that is watching this OU team on my DVR.

I watch, but I find myself flipping channels and doing other things during OU basketball games.. During the A&M game I was watching the UT game and just checking the score on the OU one, lol. I normally NEVER do that.

Think that the Aztecs have been in tournament play several times under Fisher be it NCAA or NIT. Guy hasn't been a total bust. And the school has stayed with him. Even SDSU would dump a bad coach.

I wasn't suggesting that Fisher has been a bust at SDSU. But going from a national title at Michigan and consecutive runs at two more is a long way from where he is now. That was the point of my post. It wasn't meant to downplay what Fisher has accomplished as the Aztec's coach, nor was it intended to be a knock on the school.

LOL! This has happened to me, too. When my wife and I married 13 years ago, as soon as football season was over she was excited because she started thinking of all the fun we could have on Saturdays but then basketball season started. At the time we lived in OKC, so after basketball was spring football and baseball and she was not a happy camper. Fast forward 13 years and she is finally OK with me being just as involved in basketball and my daughter is old enough now that the 2 of them go shopping without me while I stay home and watch football and used to watch college basketball. Now, I'm trying to get her to do something with me to keep me from watching basketball and she doesn't know how to take it.

This is the first year I cancelled my subscription to full court because I couldn't stand to watch the team play. I was hoping the aTm game wouldn't be on the local big 12 network this past Saturday here in KC because I've got a lot of work to do on our taxes before I start to prepare them. Needless to say, it was on and I was somewhat excited and started thinking "how cool would it be if we won". I admit, the OU homer in me starts thinking we can win even when my head knows we don't have a chance.

Then the game started and I was watching it and doing tax work on commercials. As we fell further behind, I was watching it less and doing more tax work. Then, before the game was over I was in the shower so we could go out that night to dinner. I used to never miss any part of the game to get ready to go on a date with my wife.

So, she's pretty perplexed to the whole deal. I hope we get a new coach and the program gets turned around pretty quickly or we are going to have more marital strife once it is all turned around because then she's going to be used to me being available at her beck and call after football season is over. LOL!

Well at least im not alone on this one. I have trouble watching any mens games this year and certainly not excited about Mmadness. Still root for Capel and tune in to OUr games but it leaves me feeling deflated and amazed. I really like these kids and can almost be labled a pumper but the reality of the situation is getting heavy. At least Sherri and her guys have an exciting young team on the floor.

You can't say "I'm a huge college basketball fan" and then not watch any games because OU isn't any good. That just means you're a huge OU basketball fan.

OU sucks this year and all I have done the last two weeks is watch college basketball.
