Before he went underground, I asked Castiglione how the search firm helped him five years ago.

"It helps a lot when we're moving at the kind of pace we want to move and needing the information we want to have," he replied. "If we do choose to go that direction again, that will basically be the scope of their involvement. We understand the candidate pool and those we would like to talk to, but they can really assist in finding out information, whether it's related to their contract, related to their experiences, events they've faced, the situation they're in. It's a lot of background information that they can provide."

Well, sounds like the search firm employed in this search failed on the contract front. We heard Buzz's buyout was less than 2 million, so we waited for his season to end, meanwhile coaches are being hired at other jobs, and then we find out the buyout is actually 3.5 million (or so) and now we don't want to front that kind of money. So, somebody failed here, big time.

Another idiot just writing to be writing! Doesn't have a clue!

You are really pushing this media hate, but you keep seemingly going after the wrong guys. Guerin Emig is, by far, the best OU beat writer in the state. He is the only one that consistently follows basketball at OU. There are plenty of crappy writers out there writing crap about OU, Guerin isn't one of those guys.

They have to write about something, and all there really is to write about at this point is speculation regarding the next coach. My only concern is that there is all of this discussion of "disinterest" or guys "turning us down" that makes the program look bad, and there is really no basis of fact for making such statements. I think that is where the media is frustrating me a little bit.

should have asked me for assistance and we would of had a coach in place 2 weeks ago

Not using a search firm for a school in our situation is pure arrogance. They help a lot.

+1

GIVE it up, they didnt want to take a risk on an anti-social drunk.

Good lord, does the word "redemption" appear in the dictionary? By all accounts he has cleaned up his act for a few years now. You hire him, you make it very clear that he is gone if there are any run ins with the law, and you take the chance because the reward probably outweighs the risk!

RE: The original topic...the search firm is a good idea.

Agreed. Also, this article wasn't totally void of information. Clearly Emig looked into some connections to previous coaches that are connected to the search firm and threw some names out there. It also helps explain why we aren't hearing anything. It sounds like having the firm ask the question rather than OU means no one really knows who we are targeting.

heavens no MI this is the BIBLE BELT. Where if you're caught drinking then you're forever condemned ... but if you need to find your neighbors in a pinch then you should check the whiskey section of the local package store first.
