Anyone hear this? Here's a tweet from Emig and the Tulsa World about it:

Asked on KREF today to assess #OU bball, AD Joe Castiglione lauded team's effort, didn't mention Capel. FWIW.

As an AD concerned with budgets he has to be concerned with the lack of attendance and fan support.

we still sell over 9500 tickets a game even if the arena is half full. So yes he is missing out on some concession sells, but they still get money for all the season tickets they sell so people can get football tickets

Don't know for sure, but concessions for athletic events may be contracted out...OU gets a certain payment up front, Aramark takes actual revenue from game. Might be wrong. Sports teams love guaranteed cash flow, that's why this is done quite a bit.

He also has to balance these things against how much severance would cost.

Aramark isn't involved anymore from what I can tell.

All the plastic cups at the football games used to advertise Aramark, but now they just say "OU Concessions". I can't say for certain what this means, but I've taken it to mean OU took over the contract and created their own concessions branch to handle the concessions to keep more of the money inside the athletic department.

Maybe somebody with knowledge of this knows exactly what happened, though.

Did not know that, thanks for the heads up. Still have to believe it's contracted out, would question the decision to run everything in house...that's a lot of unnecessary overhead.

I agree with you, but if it were contracted out wouldn't Aramark still have their name somewhere?

I'll ask my brother-in-law...he works for Dr. Pepper and he usually knows who is handling concessions at various facilities.

Well if the interviewer did'nt mention Capel maybe that was relief for Joe C.Why talk about it if you don"t have to.Go Sooners!!!!!

If you are asked to assess your family, and you don't even bring up your wife.
It is not a stretch to assume you don't think she's worth mentioning.

Personally, I would say the fact Castiglione didn't mention Jeff while discussing the basketball team doesn't mean much to me. Joe seems like the kind of person in the radio interviews I have heard that he will only discuss topics of which he is asked.

If the interviewer (Hale?) asked him "what do you think about the coaching job Jeff has done so far?" and Castiglione declined comment or failed to mention Jeff specifically, then I think Jeff has cause for concern.

What we don't know is if the interviewer was told "I'm not discussing Jeff Capel, so don't ask about him". If that were the case, then that would also explain why Jeff wasn't discussed because maybe Joe doesn't want to get into a situation where he's now having to either defend his stance or defend a comment he made in an interview. If Joe mentions Jeff negatively or positively, everybody is going to report it and talk about it. Sometimes its best to say nothing and let things play out.

It could mean something, but it could just as easily mean absolutely nothing.

The concessions ARE contracted out, but in the last bid, OU food services beat out Aramark and others to secure the concessions contract... so it IS OU, but is still contracted out... lol.

Sounds fishy to me...if I were Aramark, I'd sue...:(

Most of the interview centered on the developing TV networks for OU and Texas. Sounded like OU would have something going within 18 months or so.
