Hi Guys/Gals, why is it that we don't seem to be able to recruit the taller ladies for the center/post position? Everyone in the Big 12 seems to have a lot more height than our ladies.

Of course size is important at the center position, but a girl doesn't necessarily have to be over 6-5 to be a good post player.

It is difficult to effectively defend a big offensive center when less than 6'4". But fortunately big offensive centers like KSU's Lee are almost not existent. But beating KSU in Norman will be extremely difficult to impsssible if the KSU can get the ball inside to Lee like they did in Manhattan.

Hopefully we will better at both ends of the court.

Difficulty, how about our last coach didn’t even try. The four bigs on the roster have no business playing D-1 ball. Two questions that the talking heads SHOULD ask Coach Sherri is, why is this coach getting so much more out of your players than you did, and why did you not see the trend moving to talker more athletic type players and go get more of them?

Mulkey also had a wuss mentality about her. She did not like playing in the paint she wanted to keep her game at the high post level.

Coach Jennie has two 6'3" girls coming in next year.

Kiersten Johnson, a 6-foot-3 forward from Carrollton, Texas, is ranked as the No. 61 player in the country by the All Star Girls Report.

Beatrice Culliton, a 6-foot-3 center from Overland Park, Kansas, is ranked as the No. 96 player in the country by ESPN.

You can say they are undersized or playing out of position but to say they have no business playing D-1 ball is a gross exaggeration and insulting to boot.

Unless you work in the women's basketball office, you have no idea who Coale tried to recruit at the center position. I certainly don't know and you don't either.

Is Madi Williams not athletic enough for you? Is Kelbie Washington not athletic enough for you? If you can't see that we are more athletic than we were several years ago you haven't been paying attention.

A valid question, which you didn't ask, is why were our roster numbers so low the past 2 or 3 years. But since neither of us work in the women's basketball office, we don't know, do we?

Let's enjoy the team and coaching we have this year. We have great chemistry, and a team that competes hard and is fun to watch.
But.... we did not recruit a top notch center the last few years, and it made it very difficult to beat those teams that had a quality center with height. Recruiting all positions is one of the requirements of a good coach.

Most colleges have quality coaches in all sports. Some better than others. They all spent many years being success at multiple levels and schools and their input is a key factor in winning championships. Schools pay them top dollar for their production on the field and the court.

But the #1 factor is player skillset. A good coach can on occasion beat a great coach with inferior talent. However those wins are always an anomaly. Championships are consistently won by the most talented teams. Successfully recruiting the talent necessary to win championships is the most difficult job of the coach. And that talent has to be replenished annually to maintain the desired success.

Players win games. Players with quality coaching win championships.

I was looking at who the coach follows on twitter. She is following a few centers. Breya Cunningham, Savannah Scott, Cierra Toomey, Mallory Collier, Rylee Grays, Audi Crooks, and Jalynn Bristow. I believe they are all 2023.
