So Cox, Holmes, Mulkey all look like they'll make the All Freshmaen team... not sure who the others will be, Dungee and Ramirez possibly

I think that seven have separated themselves from the rest:

Lauren Cox, Baylor
Joyner Holmes, Texas
Nancy Mulkey, Oklahoma
Chelsea Dungee, Oklahoma
Kianna Ray, TCU
Amber Ramirez, TCU
Aurella Guirantes, Texas Tech
Brittany Brewer, Texas Tech.

Right now, I do think Holmes and Mulkey have been more of a difference-maker type. Cox is showing that she could be. Dungee and Guirantes are showing all-around performance, not just scoring.

I would probably go with an All-Freshman team of:

Joyner Holmes
Nancy Mulkey
Lauren Cox
Chelsea Dungee
Aurella Guirantes

with Ray as the first off the bench, sixth-man?

Just looking at the classes, those who think Sherri isn't recruiting must not be paying attention to Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and West Virginia.

Syb,

This took a lot of work on your part and I know I speak for many in saying thanks. Interesting way to look over the conference Freshman class.

We will need to watch over the course of the rest of the season to evaluate everyone, but your analysis at this point is reasonable. I do think Kianna Ray has produced good numbers - understanding that she has played lots of minutes, so her numbers should be pretty good. Anyone who has watched us this year has to be very impressed with Chelsea. She does not play like a Freshman. Watching Nancy has also been exciting.

Thanks again for your hard work on this.

I'm not sure how you pick an All-Freshman class. Looking at the recruits, I think that the Texas Tech recruits, TCU recruits, and Holmes would be those who filled a need. Baylor didn't really need Cox this year with Brown, Mompremier, and Davis. She is more of a development for the future thing, although she is pretty good right now. They need her when the others leave.

With Boyette gone, Holmes fills a very definite need for Texas. She was the critical piece late in the year. Lang is the only other real quality that Texas had inside, and she is gone after this year.

Nancy and Chelsea came into a situation in which they shouldn't have been starters. Vivi was back, and we had Gioya, Maddie, and Peyton returning at the 2-3-4 positions. Chelsea started because she was doing more than one of the returning starters was. The fact that both are playing represents an upgrade.

I don't know what Tech would do without Guirantes and Brewer or what TCU would do without Ray. They are a necessity.

Thanks for doing this, Syb!

I'd say, at this point and with Vivi coming on strong again, Chelsea is more of a lock for the all-freshman team than Nancy is.

I think she had a few terrible years, and it showed, but the last two have been very good.

We SHOULD have better times ahead starting next year.

The class with Vivi and Gabbi looks pretty good.

Agree with both of you. If the young ladies we have coming in next season live up to their billing, we have a lot to look forward to.
