Jeff Goodman reporting that Arkansas is on the verge of hiring Crutchfield as an assistant.

He wanted head coaching in waiting.

Ou not willing.

Hemorrhaging money in non-revenue sports. Time to balance the budget in those sports so we can make more money in revenue sports.

Men's basketball is not a "non-revenue" sport. Just because half the seats look empty doesn't mean they weren't sold.

Last time I saw the numbers, OU was one of very few men's bball programs that turned a profit, BUT, it was a very small profit. With Lon's hefty salary and what I would assume is either similar or fewer ticket sales in recent years (ie, the last 5-7), I would assume that profit margin has fell or dropped into the red.

Thanks for this. I'm still not happy about the news, but this makes it a bit easier to take. I'm fine with OU avoiding head-coaches-in-waiting across the board. And I think it's an odd move for Arkansas to commit to such an agreement before he's even spent a day there.

Arkansas just hired a new head coach. I doubt that Crutch is going there to be a coach-in-waiting.

Lon is getting pretty standard pay for a Big XII school.

Correct.

But if he knows he isn’t going to get it here. He might as well leave and work under a good one like Muss.
And get a raise

So he'll go to Arkansas for a raise with no HC assurances but won't stay at OU for the same deal (assuming we'd match the money)?

Apologies if I wasn’t clear in my message but I am aware that ou men’s hoops is a revenue sport. It’s the women’s hoops program that is bleeding money on a garbage product which is contributing to us losing crutch.

Yeah, if Crutch's ultimate goal is to be a HC, I don't see any reason to stay here (outside of being named HC in waiting). There's not much more he can do here in terms of resume.

Well this sucks.

Is Harmon still coming to OU?

I really like coach Musselman.

How much longer before Lon Kruger retires?

Why wouldn't Harmon come lol? You think he would transfer and sit out a year because an assistant left? Not likely.

Our head coaching situation is far more stable than most schools. Yes, Lon is older than most coaches, but he has also already had his time in the NBA, and isn't looking to leave Norman for another college job (which he reiterated last month with the UCLA nonsense).

Spot on about the womens program.

We weren’t matching.

Then that part makes me angry. If one of the other assistants got an offer and Joe C. was unwilling to match, I'm fine with it, but Crutch is clearly our most important assistant at present, especially in the area of recruiting.
