D'Angelo Allen

you know your basketball, would you or someone else essentially sell me on Allen? I agree he seems good and I bet he would develop nicely under Kruger and co, but I feel he blends in with Buford too much in this class, and it sure would be nice to have 3 scholarships instead of 2 next year. Is he a 3? A stretch 4? Does he have an outside shot? Can he handle? I seem him as Buford but little less athletic (not un-athletic but Buford is a beast) and less refined

I think we have another great year, announce new plans for LNC, and could really sway some talent to sign up in Norman. I am hoping someone can tell me why Allen is better now than the upside later (without giving me the bird in hand is worth more than 2 in the bush line)...

That's been my feelings, too, although Allen is more of a 3 and Buford is more of a 4. I see Cousins and Heild getting most of the minutes on the wing (2 & 3), with Booker getting his share of time, too. Somehow Allen would have to carve his minutes out there on the wing. Buford takes over for Cam and will get most of his minutes at the PF (4) position but he could also swing to the wing if we need to go big. Allen is really thin so I don't see him down low...... Lattin or McNease are more likely to fill in there. Bennett will get his minutes, and Spangler will get all he can handle. That doesn't leave much.

Maybe Allen can beat out Buford, but I doubt it. Not if he's 6'6" and 185. I think he has loads of potential but needs time to season and add strength just like Lattin and McNease do.

I'm really more hopeful for the Houston transfer in the post (TaShawn Thomas), and appealing for immediate eligibility. We need more bulk and physicality.

I definitely think this is the case. If we get Allen I'm not expecting much contribution next year, or possibly the year after just cause of our senior class. But we finally are at a stable point again with Kruger where not every kid we sign has to come in and contribute a ton right away. they can work had in practice and develop, and get a starting role as a junior and already be able to handle the Big 12 competition and keep our team performing at a high level

Haha. Well, I wouldn't say I know too much about basketball. After watching Jordan Woodard a handful of times in high school, I never really thought he'd be more than a backup PG in the Big 12. So I was definitely wrong on that one.

As for Allen, all I've seen was that short highlight video, but I love the athleticism. He's not just athletic, he's ultra-athletic. Definitely a perimeter guy I think, and one with that leaping ability and quickness to be a really pesky defender on the wing. Plus, he seems to have a nice jumper and some offensive game.

I just think there's a lot to work with there. Similar game to the Josh Richardson kid (from Edmond Sante Fe) who played really well for Tennessee this year in the tournament.
