Danny Manning to Wake Forest?

I know there's a OU-KU history to hate Danny by, but I'd feel sad if he left just as he was getting this program back on the right track. TU used to be a lot more passionate about basketball. I got to see a taste of that at the CBI about 5 years ago. Alas, they're gonna be another wannabe football school where football either sucks (last year) or is a big fish in a mid-major pond (year before last).

If they can go back to hiring good young coaches that go on to bigger success, they will continue to attract good young coaches. They just have to accept the fact that they will have more turnover in coaching that most schools.

Woodard is better than Hornbeak and its not close.

Very true, but still sad that it seems like the only coach that wants to stick around is one TU wants to fire... like Wojick

I don't know why Woodard would want to go from being "the Man" like he will be at Tulsa for the next 2 years to sitting out a season then battling for playing time OU. TU will be in a better basketball conference next year and has a chance to get some national exposure against the likes of UConn, Memphis and Cincinnati. Now if Manning leaves and TU makes a bad hire there may be some players bailing out, but with what they have going right now I don't see a lot of guys looking transfer.

It's not a slam dunk, but playing with brother, playing for a school that he more than likely grew up being a big fan of, and playing at a program that is set to do really big things his final two years (things he won't get a chance to accomplish at Tulsa), it might be worth it to come here and play a potentially 15-20 minute role, although I think he'd almost assuredly be starting as a 5th year senior in 16-17.

If LK didn't offer him a couple of years ago, who is to say he'd make room for him now? Guessing he wouldn't.

Because I think if you told Lon Kruger that that's how he would perform in college he absolutely would have offered him. I find it very hard to believe Lon Kruger would not accept a transfer from Woodard if Hornbeak departs.

Woodard transferring in does nothing to help us replace Hornbeak next year though, so I don't know.

Agree! We have to go get a back up point guard if Hornbeak leaves.

I could see us just taking a guard in general if LK cannot find a quality backup pg type. May be too late on that. But what I cannot see is LK taking a guard of any kind, AND taking Woodard in on transfer. Roster construction wise, that just doesn't make any sense.

Bottom line.....if Hornbeak leaves, we have to sign a guard that can play next year.

Woodard was actually a Wojcik recruit/signee, not sure of what allegiance he has to Manning.

Manning is done at Tulsa. Official this morning.

Good move by Manning. Tough to win in that conference with Wake, but if he does it will be a nice stepping stone to a top program.

Bob Hoffman is rumored to be the top target.

Meh.

There are several names I'd rather they go after:

Saul Phillips (NDST)
Joe Dooley (FGC)
Mike White (LA Tech) - longshot probably
UTA coach
Bryce Drew - not sure on this one, but he is youngish and his dad/brother have had success
Bobby Hurley

Hopefully they'll go find a smaller school with a coach that has some experience, and offer him a chance to move up.

Joe Dooley was the other name I heard but I have no real TU connections other than talking to out of the loop alums.
