Shocker....Shocker....Shocker! Poor TU! Once a stepping stone, always a stepping stone!
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a stepping-stone, provided that you keep getting great coaches.
TU had a pretty damn good run being a "stepping stone" from the late 1980s through the early 2000s.
Their biggest mistake was going for "stability" when they hired John Phillips. They should have just kept hiring the best possible "up and coming" coach they could. (IIRC, they passed on Mike Anderson for John Phillips.)
They should just keep hiring the best up-and-coming coach possible, and you never know... they might land a Mark Few type who wants to just stay there.
Moving into the AAC next year, they might actually be able to attract a pretty decent coach who might stick around for more than a few years.
