A kid I think is a high major recruit. SoonerDaze, what do you know about this kid?
DM, sorry for the late reply. In the process of moving the past 6 days. Still no Internet at home :facepalm First time even back at work since last Wed.
As for your boi Darius, the reports are correct, he's definitely back in "the game".
He's got a nice basketball build, but is not an explosive athlete in the truest sense of the term. Will not wow you with physical. However, he does have a lot of length and decent feet and hips. He can guard on the perimeter when he's motivated, but therein lies the crux of his (and many, many others') issue...how hard is he going to go?
I can tell you this, he disappears in school ball at times, and there's absolutely no reason for that other than he CHOOSES to. He plays in a good district, but not a great one. There is PLENTY of opportunity for him to dominate, as there are only a handful of quality players in that district and a number of them are on the same team.
He
can rebound and he
can defend, but he rarely does in quantity worthy of a major D1 player. Frankly, I was worried about his ability to contribute at TCU. Now that he's back on the hunt, I'm not really sure where he'll end up. I spoke with someone who knows the situation decently well and he said D is wide open right now.
What he can do is score. He has a good stroke, and can finish with contact in the paint. Remember, he's a lefty. His outside game is almost all catch and shoot though. Very little mid-range, pull-up off the bounce in his game. His deep ball is a set shot, where he gets very little lift on the release.
He has good potential, but has basically kept the same skill-set since he was in 9th grade. He and Jordan Hamilton were virtually the same player as freshmen; but now, Jordan has elevated his game where he's one of the best players in Texas and D has pretty much stayed pat.
Choosing to play for a program like the Seawolves, who, IMO do a terrible job of getting their athletes more than regional exposure, certainly didn't help his cause. His high school is buried in suburban anonymity, so he'll get almost no exposure there. Should be interesting to see how much interest there is now that he's back on the market.
