Don’t misunderstand Lamb. She’s not condoning that SAE video. But she says her prayer for her son is probably not much different than the prayers for the students expelled for their role in the video. A prayer that he be not shaped by the worst when something bad happens.
“No parent wants their kid to feel bad or to be in a bad situation,” Lamb said. “All of that aside, I think the best thing that can come from this is Khadeem will get to, in a very safe environment, witness a socially ugly thing and make a decision on how it will affect you, and if it will affect, and if it will affect you, what will you do. And that’s a good thing.
“Sometimes lessons come coated with cotton candy. Sometimes lessons in life are hard. At the end of the day, you still have to be a better person.”
That was David Lattin’s message, too, in so many words: “Idiots tend to jump out anytime anywhere. Just the way the world is.”
