Did Lon Kruger take one for his Alma Mater?

Even if he was serious, he obviously didn't spend much time thinking through the very idea that Coach Kruger would "take one for the team" to give his Alma Mater a helping hand. For one thing, LK's reputation as a straight shooter at every stop should be enough to answer that question.

If not, I'll add one more that will make more sense. Why would the coach of the #1 ranked team in the country blow off the possibility of an important win on the road that would keep his team at the top of the conference race and take a hit in the national polls in the process? The very idea that any coach, especially Lon Kruger, would do something like that is so ridiculous it's not worthy of consideration.

I'll offer some better reasons for our loss, starting with our porous defense. Simply saying Jordan had the worst game of his career offensively, Buddy was not at his best, Lattin got in early foul trouble, and our bench didn't do much to help is not giving K-State the credit they deserve for playing a great game. A combination of all of those things led to the loss, not some silly notion that Lon may have conspired somehow to "throw his Alma Mater a bone."

Come on, HW, you're better than that!

The one thing that surprised me the most is both Buford and James, but especially Buford, played very soft or scared yesterday. Dante has been taking it to people even in road games but yesterday he made a very soft move to the basket and missed a gimme but if he goes hard like normal he could have thrown it down with authority. Then James came in and played the same way. I don't know if it was the environment in Manhattan or the fact we jumped out to the big lead so they all thought we were going to win going away but that was very strange to me.

The was a weird substitution group most of the night. Ha! KSU's talent level wasn't anything to write hom about, but OU's sleep walking wasn't either. Play down to your competition much?

Nothing worse than losing to KSU in basketball, especially after their Applebee's eating Prez kicks dirt in the face of Boren last week. :facepalm

Was it their new facilities Lon Kruger wanted to reward?

Drugs are a terrible thing.

Not really. Note the facilities rant!

Consecutive losses in Manhattan since 2012 are too numerous to ignore. It is quite possible that psychologically speaking, the players took one for their coach as well.

The substitutions were unusual and the lack of intensity on defense were evident yesterday. Something is at play here.

Stop it.

Right on. With Lattin getting in foul trouble he played only 19 minutes and had 2 boards, 6 points and zero blocks. In Norman Lattin played 32 minutes and had 10 boards, 10 points and 6 blocks. In Norman OU won the points in the paint by 10 in Manhattan by 4. We won the 2nd chance points battle in Norman and lost it in Manhattan.

Obviously we needed more minutes from Lattin as Spangler line was similar for both games. Let Lattin lose 13 minutes of action because of foul trouble and shoot 25% BTA instead of 57.9% is a receipt for disaster. Live by the 3. Die by the 3.

Great point! Not to mention Woodard going scoreless in Manhattan after scoring 19 points against KSU in Norman.

As I said earlier, a number of factors contributed to our loss in a hostile environment where K-State doesn't lose too often. None that I can think of put the blame squarely on Lon Kruger's shoulders.

It's kind of disrespectful to Kruger to question if he took one for his alma mater. Of course he didn't.

It's tough to get up and play well for 30+ games in a season. It's easy to lose focus or momentum. Especially with everyone gunning for you. I used to play tournament racquetball and was an A/open player. There were times at a local club I would play someone "easy" and would mess around on some shots when I had a big lead..... and maybe lose 3-4 points in a row before turning in back on. However, there were a few times I tried to turn it back on and couldn't do it. I just lost momentum. That's what I think happened to the Sooners last Saturday. They went flat and couldn't get it back. We were all waiting for some of those 3's to hit but their emotional tank was empty. It happens in every sport.

I'm not particularly worried about it.

Could the smilie :facepalm be removed from the list?

Or we could just remove the person over using it. Some thing actually deserve a :facepalm, and some people just can't for a complete sentence so they have to rely on emojis.

Works for me!

Or at the very least, delete this thread, which is the work of a troll and impugns the integrity of our head coach, a man who, if nothing else, has proven to be decent and upstanding -- and a winner.
