Doggin a Player before you know a Player

fbone, I'm with you on posters doggin' players' personal lives without knowing them or their circumstances. That's just...wrong.

But I feel that if a player puts on the OU uniform, then his or her performance is fair game on fan boards such as this one; it comes with the territory of performing in front of a large, enthusiastic fanbase which, of course, is why athletes come to places like OU in the first place. When they perform particularly well, like Blake did, then they are applauded. Consequently, when they perform poorly, they are booed. You just can't have it both ways.

I wish Thompson and Hardrick all the best and I doubt any real OU fan wants either young man to suffer actual pain or hardship based on their on-the-court performance. But if they aren't making the team better, then they need to go away. OU is not a institution that accepts mediocrity or poor performance.

Great post and I agree that people should be able to question performance...

And maybe the reason why he did not play was due to the injury of the knee. And yes maybe if he was Blake he would of had the surgery 1 1/2 years ago when they knew he was unable to play due to the knee damage. And l am pretty sure they would of informed Blake of the problem/surgery then. You can only do so much when your knee is not letting you perform on the court.

Not defending players but give the players a chance before you know the facts.

Well why didn't he have the surgery then?

I highly doubt that even with good knees he would be playing

Regardless of how bad both of them are as basketball players, I dont remember anyone on here attacking them on a personal level. I think you are too close to the flame. I understand where you are coming from. But no one that I can remember was/is vicious in their attempt to air their opinions on the type of persons either one is.

Hardrick had no business getting a scholarship out of high school, from a talent and academic standpoint.

Hardricks scholarship was offered when he was in 9th grade Capels first year if I remember correctly. Big mistake to offer, was it the right thing to honor it? I say no. Scholarship offers are like oral commitments IMO. You can change your mind until the contract is executed.

Agree, as it became very evident his Senior in high school that he was not a Division 1 player.

Well...Hardrick lasted 3 years in Norman. That's 3 times longer than most Capel recruits. By my estimation, other than Cade and Crocker, Hardrick lasted the longest. If Pledger and Fitz stay for all 4 years then they will surpass him.

Make of that what you will, but IMO, it's the reason Capel was fired.

Hardrick, Fitz and Pledger were all in the same recruiting class. They are all about to start their 3 year.

Hardrick's scholarship to OU was offered by Sampson. Hardrick was at nearly every OU game from junior high on. Capel honored the scholarship, which was a classy move but one that definitely cost him a more talented player that could help
