Dominic magee shows tweets from recruiters on twitter

To the OSU fans: do you truly respect Travis Ford? I know you support him because he is your guy and I get that, but do you truly, honestly respect the man?

Yes.

What's not to respect?

Does he complain about calls like any other coach? Sure.
Does he sound more whiny than other coaches..maybe so. But that's just his voice.

I'm not going to judge him for what he sounds like on the sidelines.

I don't think he is the in-game coach Eddie Sutton was at least not at this point in his career. Maybe a younger Eddie didn't have that wisdom earlier on either....

Ford doesn't get caught up in funny business recruiting and still brings in quality talent.

The guys he has supposedly, 'ran off' consisted of Jarred Shaw who is known to be the one really responsible for the Darrel Williams rape case.
Ray Penn who..although talented had issues. And a bunch of other guys who were unhappy about playing time. Most from his first recruiting class that he had to throw together.

Since then, he has done tremendously better at keeping guys in the program and developing them. Brian Williams, Michael Cobbins, Markel Brown are a testament to that. Nash probably so too.

His players respect him, he is respected by other coaches with good relationships with Izzo and Billy Donavan from what I've heard.

Holder respects him.

He is great with student interaction spending countless hours on campus promoting this team last year. OBviously that becomes a lot easier with Smart returning.

He has taken a winning program that was at its lowest point in 20 years and turned it around to a spot where we will compete with the Jayhawks for Big 12 'ship and make a better run in tournament.

I think he has work to do as far as the tournament wins go and I hope he gets there but he seems like a respectable coach by all accounts going all the way back to his playing days.

Hillbilly Ford has won 1 NCAA game in his entire career. He has zero skins on the wall. That's his "proven system". Failure. He's the worst coach in the Big XII easily.

All that, and OU and OSU over the past 5 years have been almost identical. And OU has been at just about our worst over the last 30 years in those last 5.

Congrats!

These goofy pokes, every time Lon goes against Travis for a recruit, I feel Lon will come out on top! I feel real good about Magee & Soloman!! Lon will close on them soon!!!

Ford and the yard bird from Baylor are the two most disliked coaches in the conference by their peers. Probably for the same reason.

Terrell Harris has hung around the league and has got some championships. Another player that improved under Ford.

Harris, Anderson

He'll get 3 more this season...Cobbins next season according to some mock drafts. I haven't seen a coach get under your guys skin like this since about 2004.

This is so untrue. This is exactly how we treat EVERY OSU coach.

Also, let's not start touting his players who WILL make the league. Let's wait until they make it...so many things can happen between now and then.

Lon is Most Popular, most likely to succeed, and Mr. congeniality among his peers.

Dear Greg Swaim,

Please stop posting under this username. A man who votes on both the mens and womens McDonalds AA game for the state of Oklahoma should not have to hide under a parody handle such as "Krugs hairlip". You are better than that.

Please tell your son blankenship that he needs a new hobby as well.

Keep on keeping on with the wind-suites as you and Bob Huggins may be the only two male humans over 18 but under 65 to sport that fashion. I can respect that.

Regards,

BT

bballfan,

I'm sorry that you have fallen for Napoleon's charm - his wife made the same mistake (poor thing then had to move to Stillwater, Oklahoma.)

Good luck with vet school. I would stick with expressing feline anal glands and lose the basketball analysis/message board pseudo-devils advocate shtick because you fail on many levels.

The fact that you think Butch "candy man" Pierre and his twelve year old looking boss are clean on the recruiting trail is your first of many glaring mistakes. I know, I know I don't have any proof....just ask around and you will find many examples.

I wish you well- kind yet delusional Aggie.

Congrats!

Yeah, 5 years ago was OU's best season ever under a Coach who is one of the worst cheaters in college basketball history.

Congrats!

And you act like OSU has been on the top of the basketball world during past 5 years. The program was in the pits after Sean got let go.

Past 5 Years Win%:
OU 56.8%
OSU 62.2%

Yeah...I guess that is 'kinda' close....

Past 4 Years Win%:
OU 49.2%
OSU 61.4%

Yeah....good thing Blake Griffin grew up a sooner fan.....

Travis Ford at OSU:
OSU 62.2%

Lon Kruger at OU:
55.6%

Each program were both in bad spots when taken over.

We'll see how this year plays out...

I'm sure you thought Jeff Capel was just a great guy.

As far as Butch Pierre goes...maybe you should tell that to his face. He's respected in the baskteball community. Rumors come from disgruntled fans from schools like KU, UK, and Baylor when Pierre snags a top recruit from under them.

Or even worse...from fans at schools that don't have a lick of a chance at talented basketball players that didn't grow up yelling boomer sooner.

I don't wish you well at all - disgruntled message board poster. I'm awaiting the Lon Kruger miracle this year...

Spangler for first team All-American!
Frank Booker is definitely going to be better than Pledger and Cam is finally going to learn how to play basketball.

Why is it that so many of you OSU people, with the slightest bit of pressure, revert into that typical aggie stereotype?

Thanks for the reasonable response. Although I disagree with most of your points (in fact I could spin many of them in the opposite direction), I would probably make myself think similarly if I were a poke fan.

I'm surprised to see you touting Fords record in this manner. I would have assumed OSU fans had higher expectations that a 62.2 win% over a 5yr window. I also would have assumed you expected more than a 44-40 conference record and more than 1 tourney win every 5 years. Hell, Tulsa is firing coaches with (arguably) better resumes than that.

As for Blake Griffin, why wouldn't he have grown up a Sooner fan? In his lifetime the Sooner's were consistently the best team in the state, that does have its privileges.

I see you are hanging your hat on this season; so just what are your expectations?

Oh and it's interesting that many your comparisons spanned Ford's entire tenure (5yrs) but when it came to win% you dropped it to 4yrs. I wonder why......

How was 5 years ago OU's best season ever?

1988 - Runners Up
2002- Final 4.

When Travis Ford took over at OSU, it wasn't as bad a shape as when Kruger came to OU. On Ford's roster he had, James Anderson, Terrell Harris, Marshall Moses, Keiton Page, Byron Eaton, Obi Muonelo and pretty boy Nick Sidorakis.

That's 2 NBA players, a shooter and a solid PG. The fact that Ford's win percentage is only 62.2% with that team to start off with is enough to show that his "proven" ways are just not that good; or that's just the standard that OSU fans wish to accept these days. :OU-logo:

Again with the utter and complete ignorance (or intentional misinformation).

By no possible measure was that our best season ever -- and I don't give two hoots about Capel, now that he's gone, but you'd better have more evidence to back up that statement than you do for the first one.

Someone please show this 12-year-old the door!

Holder respects him.

he seems like a respectable coach by all accounts going all the way back to his playing days.

He booed from the sidelines while an opposing player was shooting free throws. Only an aggie would call that respectable.

He's gotten in trouble more than once for his language and was heard calling one of his players a "f*cking idiot." He got called out for that in many circles, and Holder, who you claim respects him, was not one bit happy about it.
Respectable? Really?

As for not getting caught up in recruiting funny business, I wouldn't bet the rent on that just yet, sonny.

I wouldn't trade Lon Kruger for 10 Travis Fords. You can have him; he fits in very well in Stillwater.

Just ask Tiny Gallon..he's admitted to receiving money wires before...he is the reason why there was a possible investigation in the first place.
