To the OSU fans: do you truly respect Travis Ford? I know you support him because he is your guy and I get that, but do you truly, honestly respect the man?
Yes.
What's not to respect?
Does he complain about calls like any other coach? Sure.
Does he sound more whiny than other coaches..maybe so. But that's just his voice.
I'm not going to judge him for what he sounds like on the sidelines.
I don't think he is the in-game coach Eddie Sutton was at least not at this point in his career. Maybe a younger Eddie didn't have that wisdom earlier on either....
Ford doesn't get caught up in funny business recruiting and still brings in quality talent.
The guys he has supposedly, 'ran off' consisted of Jarred Shaw who is known to be the one really responsible for the Darrel Williams rape case.
Ray Penn who..although talented had issues. And a bunch of other guys who were unhappy about playing time. Most from his first recruiting class that he had to throw together.
Since then, he has done tremendously better at keeping guys in the program and developing them. Brian Williams, Michael Cobbins, Markel Brown are a testament to that. Nash probably so too.
His players respect him, he is respected by other coaches with good relationships with Izzo and Billy Donavan from what I've heard.
Holder respects him.
He is great with student interaction spending countless hours on campus promoting this team last year. OBviously that becomes a lot easier with Smart returning.
He has taken a winning program that was at its lowest point in 20 years and turned it around to a spot where we will compete with the Jayhawks for Big 12 'ship and make a better run in tournament.
I think he has work to do as far as the tournament wins go and I hope he gets there but he seems like a respectable coach by all accounts going all the way back to his playing days.
