ESPN Telep on Capel @ Duke (Julius Randle related)

Summary

- Capel will do very well there with other Duke players on staff
- Capel recruited well, especially southwest (debatable)
- Duke will have big foot in door with Julius Randle
- Had strong relationship with Randle, duke hasn't offered him but expect that to change when Jeff gets in town
- Capel helping them recruit more at Nike youth camp


I would really be pissed if he goes out there and steals Randle. I hope Kruger can get him to come up north and help lead us back to being a great team again. Get the Harrisons and/or good talent and let him be the star to lead us. Show him tapes of BG and how far he can carry the team.

why be pissed? I'd rather Jeff sign him at Duke than for him to play at KU, Texas, OSU, or any other Big 12 institution other than OU. If he goes to Duke, we don't play against him unless we meet in a tournament.

Besides, I doubt Jeff can sign Randle. Look at the roster he left LK and then tell me how you think Capel can go from signing those guys to somebody the caliber of Randle? He's not a good recruiter and the last 5 years should, if nothing else, remind you of that fact.

Recruiting to OU and Duke are two different animals. He will have to little if anything at Duke because the name Duke recruits itself. All he would have to do is develop a relationship with the kid (which we know he can do that well) and who knows what happens??

Tough to be pissed when you lose a recruit to Duke IMO, regardless of the circumstances. Quin had an early lead on Loul Deng, only to lose him there. We were in the same situation with Hansbrough, but he went with UNC. Can't blame either player. It happens when you recruit against the elite programs without being elite yourself.

How do you know? Are you friends with Randle and he told you this?

Reportedly so was Harrison Barnes, Terrance Jones, Jai Lucas, and a few others who ended up going elsewhere.

Your negativity towards Capel, even after he is gone, is just pathetic.

Those other recruits ended up going elsewhere b/c OU is not a high level destination. If a recruit is really high on capel and then he leaves to a better program, you still give capel credit.

Word of note it's being reported on Scout by Evan Daniels that he feels that OU would have landed Randle if Caple were still the coach.

Isn't Randle the recruit that said he wanted to turn around a program? And didn't he use Blake as a bad example of that? If he wants to turn a program around, he won't be going to Duke.

I dont know about his recruiting ability, but he hasnt any judgement about a kids character or his intelligence.
