Exhibition Thoughts

It is hard for me to believe that Sherri would start a player (regardless of past years) if we have a better player on the roster. That would make absolutely no sense.

That's just it. We don't have a better player on the roster. Otherwise, Kaylon would be starting at the 5!

I did not start watching until about half way through the first half. I don't know why but N. Kornet looked completely lost to me. She seemed to be running up and down the court waving her arms. After the game I looked at the stat sheet and she apparently had a very decent game. Not sure what I saw but apparently either she did well early or I just missed everything good she did.

I asked the people on HoopScoop which one of their players they thought would have the most difficulty with the 'new' way the officials are supposed to be calling the game. A Texas fan replied that in their exhibition, Texas was called for 33 fouls and sent their opponent to the line 47 times. I checked our box score from Saturday and we were called for 16 fouls and Cameron only shot 6 free throws. I hope that this was because we just did a better job of moving our feet instead of hand checking.

My longwinded ranty version is over at SS.com, but I am very excited for what Edwards will contribute the next 4 years. I know she was a beneficiary of some untimely injuries, but sometimes that's all it takes.

After more than a decade of Sherri team fandom, I should be resigned to the plagues that are turnovers, missed free throws and silly fouling.... mostly turnovers. :(

SS.com is soonersports. yes, I did mean SF.com sorry

I was very happy with the team showing yesterday. My longwinded version Cliff's Notes: Point guard position up for grabs. We miss too many free throws and have too many turnovers. First half recap GIF time!

Pretty sure Morgan Hook has the point guard position locked down with Edwards a solid backup who's going to get good minutes. I definitley wouldn't say the position is up for grabs.

You're exactly right!

I know that conventional wisdom suggests that the current starter, the senior starter, the girl who has contributed solidly to the team for 3 going on 4 seasons starts.

I also know that it's Morgan's job to lose.

Forgive me for bad fan-ness, but just watching Tuesday, I suspect that there's high potential for change at that position.

According to Coach's remarks, Morgan hasn't played or practiced for a while. The reason she played last night was to knock the rust off before the WNIT. When Hook is back in the flow, I don't think there's much chance of her getting beat out as the starter, or the key person to be in when the situation is dicey.

I do see Edwards substituting early and often, as soon as Morgan starts to look tired.

Exactly! Barring injury, Morgan will be the starter for every game. T'Ona will get playing time as well. I actually thought Morgan looked quicker and faster last night than she's looked in previous years.

I feel pretty good about one thing. When Morgan went out last year, we had a tendency to come unglued. I wonder if Edwards won't keep us together this year?

I think T'Ona will keep us together better. She's made some outstanding passes so far. I do agree with a statement you made in another post about T'Ona not trying to make the superstar pass but she makes good passes and does it well. I'm not going to say T'Ona will ever start at PG, but at this point, I think she's good enough to start. And, if she doesn't, she's going to make the starter a much better PG IMO.
