Doesnt seem like anyone thinks the team will get much out of these two guys. Just depth, I guess?

Anyone here think they will play a bigger role than expected?

I don't see either impacting games much. Arent will likely have the larger impact b/c he is the only true big man (center, I guess) with any size. I think he'll get minutes b/c of that. I'm really hoping he can develop into a Renzi Stone, or Johnny Gilbert type player. At worst, he should be similar to Szeindre.

As for Neal, outside of being a gunner from deep, I don't see that he adds much. I'm not nearly as high on him as some are. I just don't see the upside. I don't think he has a position, and outside of being a decent shooter, isn't particularly skilled. I'm sure LK will get the most out of him, I'm just not sure what that is. And I see his PT being cut down even more next year when M'Baye is eligible.

The coach has been quoted as saying that he expects Casey to contribute imediately. That is what I expect.

Im with you on Neal...I dont expect much...he is what he is, he will fill minutes and not hurt us but he wont help much either...

But I expect good things from arents....if he is anything like renzi then we are in much better shape with him in the game

He played 12.5 minutes per game averaging 2.6 boards and 4.5 points per game as a true freshman. I think it is a bit early to write him off. I hope to see improvement and a few more minutes per game this season.

Obviously he is challenged by the fact he is a bit of a tweener but I think he can learn to play in the paint and help his team.

Tyler Neal has great upside IMO.

From what I understand there are questions about how much he actually likes basketball.

Probably phrased that poorly. The impression I get is he just really likes being a college student and living the life of normal college kids. He doesn't live and breathe basketball like a lot of those guys do. It's not a knock on him; it's probably healthy, actually.

This sums up T neal exactly. It's kind of sad actually, knowing what he could become. He has great basketball skills

I think Neal can be a good player. Not sure about Arent yet.

I saw enough from T Neal last season to be excited about the kid. He is a good ball player and gets himself into position to make plays. Also, It is hoped that his playing time is a bit more consistent (regardless of actual minutes). His game is a might different than C Davis but I think he could have similar production if put in the same position as an upper classman (lets hope he is not). The criticism he gets (if you can even call it that) is valid though. He is kinda a tweener. Will probably have more of a sparkplug role this year. We will see.
C Arent is unknown to me. He is supposed to have a nice jumpshot to complement his height so that does not hurt. I have a good feeling that Osby is the real deal but I need to see Arent and Grooms in LK's super system before I make any judgements on their role on the upcoming season.

I would like to see Neal redshirt this year. I think he is a little immature. I like his potential though.

I think with Osby, CJ, Drew, Honore and Arent, we have enough bigs to get by. And, with grooms, blair, cam, pledger and newell, I think we have enough perimeter kids to get by. So, I say redshirt neal and see what he can contribute as a third year soph.

I see a high ceiling for Tyler, but you never know how close a kid will come to it.

So Neal parties...respect.

I've heard good preseason reports on Arent. Sure hope he can rebound.

He was seen leaving his feet to catch a rebound, a huge improvement from OU's previous center.

Blake Griffin is the last thing at OU you can really call a center. And before him it was probably Longar Longar or Jabahri Brown.

Centers at OU since Big 12:

Renzi Stone
Jabahri Brown
Longar Longar
Larry Turner
Oleg Reztov

Thats about it for "centers", as Blake was a forward. Unless I am missing someone.

Blake was a PF but he was pretty much a center with what we were doing. LOL at calling Reztov a center he was a stiff that never played. Good guy though. Turner also left before he could really get serious playing time.
