Fire Porter Moser

I think the soccer coach was fired a couple years ago too. Was the golf coach before Hybl fired? That maybe it.

Capel was fired. Pete Hughes fired. John Blake Fired. That' all I can think of since Joe C.

Read his biography sometime he essentially said we just continued everything Hoover had going and kept it going that's why the Great Depression never really improved till after WW2. BTW FDR recruited Hoover to run as a democrat in the 1920s. Hoover went to work in Russia instead.
Larry Cochell was fired too during the season after using a racial slur to describe one of his players to Kyle Peterson

I knew OUs history. OU doesn't fire head coaches. Capel was fired because he had OU in major NCAA hot water. No head coaches fired in football, basketball, women's basketball, I guess Hughes was fired in baseball. But the # of firings is so few and far between, there was just no way they would fire a squeaky clean coach like Moser. I knew this and said this back in December.
The fact that we haven't done it much is just proof of the success we've had, not that we've not been willing to let people go.

Football - Blake and Schnelly
Basketball - Capel (he was fired for performance, any NCAA stuff was just extra)
Baseball - Hughes

I'd have to look into the smaller sports, but the major sports have had such a high level of success, that there haven't been many firings needed. So you aren't wrong when you say we don't have a history of doing it, but I'd argue there haven't been many opportunities. Not many coaches allowed to stick around when they were failing. If they wanted Moser gone (last year or this year), would they likely have worked with him to leave on his own? Probably. Doesn't mean they have a reluctance to firing under-performing coaches.

It's pretty telling that we're talking about this roster as a huge upgrade in talent, which it was, yet we were still bottom third in spending for conference.

And I'm saying this as somebody that has unwaveringly said this should be Mosers last year if we miss the tourney.
pretty clearly the roster offers / evals were very good this season .. and or the sales job moser did .. i credit him for that ..

Holy ****… this 19/20 yr old kid makes $250k… I’m really starting to hate college sports.

Im
All for them getting some more cash for fun money but damn.
most if not all of the kentucky rotation make 7 figures

pretty much every football starter makes over 500k

One tournament appearance in five years and even that one was a sweat-it-out sneak in 9-seed, and yet people still defend this guy. I’m sick of the excuses. We are not talking about “why aren’t we competing for championships?“ The bar we are discussing here is making the 68-team field. That’s not a high bar to meet.

Ou isn’t investing nearly enough to compete for championships. Moser not making the tournament this year is completely unacceptable, also.

To ease the trauma of having to fire him, Gomer Jones was made AD to ease him out of the football HC job. Succeeding Bud was too much for him.
Donnie Duncan essentially fired The King without using those words.
Doyle Parrack was cut loose as the OU BB coach in the early 60s.
I think Dewey Snorter Luster coached FB during WW2 and then went back to head of intramurals after the war eneded.

Investing enough but not in the right people. I’ve been on record, many times, saying a better Coach Takes this same team to the tournament. We had the talent but blew it.

This team had the talent to make the tournament. Credit moser for assembling the talent with apparently less NIL than most Sec schools. Little doubt a better in game coach could have taken this group to the sweet 16, though.
