Fire Porter Moser

McNeese State is now 24-5, and 17-3 in their league. 14-0 at home. Bill Armstrong head coach, spent 17 years in the SEC. This is a no brainer hire for OU.

I think it’s a stretch to say anyone who is in his first year as a head coach is a no-brainer, especially when he’s in a low major conference. Not saying he couldn’t be successful, but no-brainer seems like hyperbole.

Regardless, good to see you post.

Jerome Tang looked like a no-brainer.

First year coaches bring great risk. Too risky for OU as we need to get this right after floundering for the last 10 years

Winning coach in Southland final between SFA (Matt Braeuer) and McNeese (Bill Armstrong) stands a great chance of getting a better job. Losing coach misses the tournament and keeps his current job for another year.

Biggest line was him saying that he thinks Porter Moron already has good support. Ooof. Push him out. But someone please hire Moron instead
I’m hoping that Porter reeling off some wins here will put him in position to jump to another job, maybe low end power 5 or a quality mid major.

With each win, it makes it easier to justify the decision they have already made - keeping him. Unless he takes another job (no one better than OU is going to even bat an eyelash in his direction), he is our cross to bear.

You've gone off until the deep in on this issue usually you're reasonable but I won't be reading your posts on the subject

lol, if anything they have already made the decision that they are going to fire him.

I don’t think they’ve made any decision tbh.

But, these wins, in some way, justify firing him. Because it’s clear the talent has been there from the get go. This team could have been a 21 win team.

Roger's non-answer answer says everything. He's said everything except "Porter's our coach".

My guess is that the buyout is ready and Porter is gone after our last game in Nashville.

I expect Porter to land on his feet somewhere, but not in a power conference.

Seeing these wins now is great, but I don't think that will factor into his fate unless this team can somehow win the conference tournament and make the Dance. I think we'd have to win 5 games for that to happen. The last time OU won more than ONE game in the conference tournament was 2003. That's "two thousand and three."

These string of wins reminds me of the Arizona Cardinals back in the early 1990s. They had a head coach named Joe Bugel. He was in his 4th season, on the hot seat, and won like 4-5 straight games to close out a non-playoff season. Granted, then-owner Bill Bidwell had one of the worst reputations of any owner in football (and deservedly so), but I remember what he said after firing Bugel when the season was over. He said something like: "One good month in four years was not a reason to keep him around".

Staying with OU, I remember John Blake's 1998 team closed well despite a losing record. He also had a top-ranked defensive coordinator (Rex Ryan) who allowed us to stay competitive in most games that season. Each of his three teams got slightly better. I remember reading in Sooners Illustrated that new AD Joe C made the decision to fire him after losing to Texas 34-3. It really made no difference what OU did after that. Instead of going 5-6, they could have gone 6-5 / 7-4 and made a bowl game...Blake was still gone. In other words, the decision on Coach Moser has likely already been made. If they plan to fire him, only a trip to the Dance can save him.

You realize these meaningless wins just make Moser look worse, right?

Still will be rooting for OU to go 2-0 this week and 5-0 in Nashville. Ridiculous that people on here actively root for the team they claim to love and support to lose.

Guards win in tournaments. If Pack and X do why they did this week and average 20-22 each - and you get ANY kind of production off the bench - all it might take is an active Mo and this team can win games. Florida as a whole and then maybe Tennessee’s length only two teams I don’t think we have a chance to beat.
