This year definitely hasn't gone according to plan but IMO IF OU does somehow win 2-3 more in a row and make the NCAA tourney it would almost eradicate the losing streak in my mind with the way they bounced back and have been playing lately.

Will that happen? Who knows, and for a lot, they are done with Moser which I get. It's not just the 9-game losing streak but how they lost a lot of those games with having late leads in some of them and not winning any of them. Some like MU were bad decisions/bad luck and other were bad losses like South Carolina and Miss St.

Again though, with that in mind, winning 6 out of 8 including Mizzou in blowout fashion and at Texas and possibly 8 out of the last 10 (if they win the next two) would be fairly impressive and show that Moser didn't lose the team like he's done with a lot of the fanbase.

Yeah except this is his “most talented team” and barely eking out a tournament berth with this lineup is coaching malpractice which is the norm for Moser. He’s terrible, get rid of him.

I think he should be gone without a tournament bid and should stay with one. That was my outlook before the season and remains today.

You can have that opinion. I define “underperforming” differently during the pre-NIL era versus the NIL era. Every publication/tweet that I have seen during NIL era has had OU very near the bottom of the conference (big12 & sec). We can debate the validity of this information, but 1 thing that I have yet to see is any publication stating OU is even top half of the conference. That is significant to me.

I get the perspective and don't disagree fully. However, there are coaches all over the country that have their "most talented" team that aren't living up to fans/media expectations. Mark Pope is exhibit A. If OU had a 22-million-dollar budget for the team and finished 9th in the SEC with a 19-12 overall record it shouldn't/wouldn't be a shock to then fire the coach for the fact that the same team most likely won't be returning the next year. Coaches really are on almost a year-by-year contract at this point given how much the portal can and has changed the game in one year. Gates at Missouri didn't win a conference game 2 years ago and kept his job and took MU to the tournament the next year and possibly again this year.

The problem for me is the replacement. EVERYONE has flaws. I've seen some on this board clamoring for Schertz from St. Louis who has now gone 3-3 in their last 6 games including being destroyed 86-57 by George Mason this past weekend. Belmont's head coach Casey Alexander is another hot name and just got blown out 100-79 by Drake in the conference tournament and most likely won't make the NCAA tourney now.

My point is, no matter who the head coach is, they are going to have issues off and on and lose games we don't feel like they should. I just don't get the "he can't coach" and "he sucks" mindset if they do win 8 out of 10 and make the NCAA tournament? He didn't suddenly get better as a coach so why did they start winning if he's always that bad? It's rhetorical, you don't have to answer

I do think OU would be better this year with an additional $10 million in NIL regardless of coach. Maybe they get one or two of those coveted post players they have struck out on every year for once.

i disagree.....but i focus a lot more on roi.
get a better coach for a lot less than $10mil/year....
i think the win at texas and the loss to texas at home are proof that we have plenty of talent but the coaching just isn't there.
you don't give a lousy coach $10mil more in talent to squander.
didn't we used to make fun of coaches like that? bill self? a coach that NEEDED overwhelming talent to win games....

Which is more important, rumored NIL numbers or the fact that we landed a top 10 Portal class last season that includes 4 of our 5 starters?

If NIL was truly the issue, we wouldn't be landing those types of players.

I asked this question on another board this morning.

Why is men's basketball the only sport that OU cannot support properly with NIL?

Football is fine.
Women's basketball is fine.
Baseball is fine.
Softball is fine.
Both gymnastics teams are fine.
Golf (men's?) is fine.

But OU just chooses to not fund men's basketball properly, even thought it's one of two sports that has any reason shot at generating a profit by itself?

NIL is NOT the biggest issue OU has right now. This lineup is plenty good enough to get a decent seed in the NCAA tournament.

Our biggest issue right now is that our head coach is totally incompetent. That won’t change if we eke out a tournament berth. Fire him. He should have been fired a month ago.

I get that. It would take sustained success for a full season (22-23+ or more wins) for people to buy into what Moser is or has done to this point. It was SUPPOSED to be this year and this roster. The question then becomes IF he hangs on enough to give himself that next year, would he get any more funding going into next year. Brown, Dayton, Rogers are main pieces that should be back but would then have to add another 5 players or so from the portal that would actually make an impact. In today's world, if Moser leaves or is fired, the next guy might have to bring in 12+ players and what sort of budget will there be to do that depending on the hire? OU is absolutely in a tough spot either way at the moment given neither way is a sure-fire thing IMO.

First of all, for what Kentucky has spent, their roster is pathetic.

Secondly, of course we’d be better with more money. We’ve finished second on SO MANY good players in the last 2-3 years.

I’m fine with firing Moser, as most are, but I’m worried about what kind of coach will be interested in this job right now.

While I agree that this team should have been set up for a sweet 16 run(still could happen, I suppose), I think it would be unreasonable to fire him after another tournament bid. I also think it would be looked at negatively by prospective coaches from the outside looking in.

i have no confidence that moser would get better results from better players.
compare results from last year and this year......with much better players this year (on paper).

THIS. he has NO upside except that we are already contractually bound to pay him so we get essentially a free HC. Too bad he cant coach tho.

The football team better friggin dominate and win a playoff game this year..
