Fire Porter Moser

We can fire Moser today and the facts are...any coach brought in will be handcuffed by the same problems we already have.

We can try to deny those and try to say "this doesn't matter or that doesn't matter" but they exist.

OU isn't a high profile job as is. Sure, we could get someone who does a better coaching job. (and we all hope for that)....but it's all a crap shoot.



Im fine with moving on. I just don't want to be having the same convos about the next guy a year from now.

he stays and next year is another year like the last 5.

Funny part and I don’t think I’m alone in this, I like Moser as a coach. I think he had to work uphill especially his first couple years here so patience was given. I wish he won more here and made a run or 2 in the tourney but he has real deficiencies as a coach especially on game day that are holding his teams back.

Problem is we re in year 5 and I love OU BBall a helluva lot more then any coach and bringing him back, tourney berth or not, says a lot more about what the expectation and standard is for this program which is unacceptable. Turnarounds can happen overnight in college sports, sitting on mediocrity is just slowly destroying the program from within and it’s been painful to experience.

What's funny is, they are currently excuses for Moser but if the next guy comes in and struggles right away, they become reasons for him as to why you can't currently have sustained success in this role.

I think there are a bunch of coaches that would have performed a lot better if you stick them in for Moser. I lot of it is coaching

I get the perspective and don't disagree fully. However, there are coaches all over the country that have their "most talented" team that aren't living up to fans/media expectations. Mark Pope is exhibit A. If OU had a 22-million-dollar budget for the team and finished 9th in the SEC with a 19-12 overall record it shouldn't/wouldn't be a shock to then fire the coach for the fact that the same team most likely won't be returning the next year. Coaches really are on almost a year-by-year contract at this point given how much the portal can and has changed the game in one year. Gates at Missouri didn't win a conference game 2 years ago and kept his job and took MU to the tournament the next year and possibly again this year.

The problem for me is the replacement. EVERYONE has flaws. I've seen some on this board clamoring for Schertz from St. Louis who has now gone 3-3 in their last 6 games including being destroyed 86-57 by George Mason this past weekend. Belmont's head coach Casey Alexander is another hot name and just got blown out 100-79 by Drake in the conference tournament and most likely won't make the NCAA tourney now.

My point is, no matter who the head coach is, they are going to have issues off and on and lose games we don't feel like they should. I just don't get the "he can't coach" and "he sucks" mindset if they do win 8 out of 10 and make the NCAA tournament? He didn't suddenly get better as a coach so why did they start winning if he's always that bad? It's rhetorical, you don't have to answer

If he wins 8 out of 10, 3 of those wins would be against the bottom teams in the conference (one of which crushed us by 19 in January) and only 2 would be in the top half... really vandy was the only nice, really nice, win (with their 1st or 2nd best player out - porter's former player who he clearly should have kept if that meant letting nwankwo and Jones leave for the req. $$$)

At some point, its the law of averages. Tejas beat him like 7 straight times right? Now porter has doubled his total wins against tejas to 2 ha. Does that also mean porter moron is suddenly a good coach too? He also tried his best to give it away

The guy is a 54.9% lifetime winning coach regardless of where hes been. That doesnt cut it at OU, where he is a 55.5% winning coach. He was a disastrous hire. It happens. I loved it at the time. But he is consistently going to win only 54-55% of games and almost always going to have a losing conference record regardless of where hes at, the competition, the NIL budgets, butts in stands. He just doesnt have it. Simple.

Ignoring NIL, explain why is he winning at OU at almost his exact career % clip? +0.06% difference

how was moser handcuffed this season?
was he "handcuffed" when he lost to texas at home.....but somehow unhandcuffed when he beat them in austin?
was he handcuffed when he lost to two of the worst teams in the conference?
there are challenges at ou but nothing that can't be overcome by good coaching/winning.

He was completely handcuffed when he signed a transfer class that was widely hailed as one of the best in the country. Oh and don’t forget, the administration forced him to use a scholarship on a guy who anyone with common sense knew was going to focus on baseball sooner than later. And the poor guy had no choice but to bring back Jeff N and expect him to be a difference maker.

It’s laughable. The inconsistency in the arguments of some of his supporters is astounding. They were crowing after each of the four transfers committed to OU. Talked about how deep and athletic the roster was and that Moser would finally have a true chance to compete in the SEC. But as soon as things went south, the NIL excuses came out with a vengeance.

blakes recruiting was very and is very very overrated .. he got players that would have come to OU no matter the coach .. and or guy he was playing in the wrong position ..

he had a few good recruiting wins .. but that is about it ..

Like with most things, I would imagine that "money" will determine whether Porter is retained or let go. Not what you and I want OU to do. Could be wrong, but I don't imagine anyone on here really has a good handle on all the money issues that will drive the decision. Buyouts, expected season ticket sales, NIL cost issues and so forth.

Regardless of whether you want to move on from Porter or not, these are always really tough decisions. Some of you guys act like it isn't. The decision effects a lot of folks and not just Moser. We don't know about this year yet. In his first 4 years, he made the NCAA tournament once, and was the first team left out twice. Could and should have been in both of the narrow miss years. His first two years he did it with an amateur team that was competing in a professional sport. As much as some of you (and me sometimes) don't like his coaching, he hasn't been a bad coach considering the circumstances. He has been, as his record reflects, an average coach.

Just trying to be fair. JMO, and I know this is a minority position, but I would like OU to let him finish out his contract. If things don't improve next year, just don't retain him when his contract ends. If he knows that is going to happen, he will be motivated to find another job before losing this one. Getting fired negatively impacts your ability to find a new job. Much easier to get a job when you have a job. But, to each his own.

Canada Sooner might be retiring as we speak with all the cash he's won from Porter the last 4 games

I appreciate you trying to extend the benefit of the doubt.. But at the end of the day, it's a results business.

Cannot compare ou basketball standards to ou football standards at all.

The standard to ou football is winning the national title. The funding for ou football is in the top 5-10 historically. The standard for ou basketball is making the ncaa tournament. The funding for basketball is not competitive with the top 10 programs whatsoever.

LOL...the one loss was a shutout against the only good team they played in the last four games. But let's say OU won that game and finished 6-5...even went to a bowl game and won that too. It would not have mattered. The decision was made once OU lost to Texas 34-3...and solidified after losing to the Pokes shortly after that. The decision has basically been made on Moser as well...but he can change their minds (assuming firing him was their mindset) with a trip to the Dance. Short of that, the late run does not offset losing NINE games in a row.

Maybe not the specifics, but OU has the money to buy out Moser and replace the staff if they want to. Period. If other, "lesser" schools can fire coaches and play 3x that much, OU can afford what would likely be less than $5M at the end of the day.
