First open practice...

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but with Thomas' teammate that transferred for the same reason not getting a waiver, it's almost a sure thing that Thomas won't be waived right?

When did House's waiver get denied? I can't find anything on that.

I'm really not sure. I think I just saw it on here in another thread, so I was just taking the word for it. I haven't really looked into it too much which is why I said maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

So, anyone have a practice report for us?

It wasn't Danuel House who transferred to A&M that was referred to his waiver being denied in another thread. His request is still pending.

The player that was referred to in another thread was Jaaron Simmons. He was a freshman PG at U of H last year and transferred to Ohio. I Googled and didn't see where Simmons even filed for a waiver. I see where he is redshirting and has 3 years of eligibility left. Honestly, he needs a redshirt year to be ready for D1 ball.

I think we got some misinformation, and the Thomas waiver is still in play. JMHO.

There is no evidence that Simmons applied for a waiver. He was redshirting from day 1 at Ohio. This has no impact on the Thomas waiver.

If that is the case that makes me feel a whole lot better about the situation. At least leaves some hope. With the Buford thing now, it would be a big blow to this season to not have either.

I'm not sure how anybody could predict which courses will be ruled either in or out by the NCAA. The ncaa is NOT an accreditation body. When do they rule on courses? At the last minute?

When a kid goes to enroll and transcripts are submitted to the ncaa for clearance. Sometimes ncaa's ask for clarification on such and such courses.

You can call and get "pre" clearance but that's nothing on paper, I assume OU did that, got the green light and then when it came time... It didn't work out. It happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR!

Houston is trying to block the waiver. They don't believe their coach's negative history with the NCAA should be a reason for transferring. Of course had OU turned this in a timely manner we would have already had an answer.

Got burned? I think it'll be fine, he gets to rs. It's not ideal but if you ask me a top 100 player redshirting and learning from Spangler thomas and staff isn't a bad thing. But yes we needed him to play, we brought in Lattin and mcneace as well so it wasn't like he was our only big

Dude, chill. I'm not criticizing Kruger...stop being so sensitive anything related to his name. He took a chance on a kid from a basketball factory and the courses didn't work out, therefore, got burned. Never said I wouldn't do it, he's a top 100 kid. A RS year for any freshman is never a terrible thing, but for this team and it's needs, would be a huge boost to have him.

You and I both know McNeace isn't ready for considerable minutes...without Thomas (which is likely to happen) we are going to be thin up front and a Spangler injury away from being in deep trouble.

No inside information, but would bet Kruger & Co knew this was a possibility before school started. In their minds, it was worth the risk, got burned on this one though.

Surely this is true. Hard to imagine they could miss something so simple.

It's just frustrating this stuff is always happening to OU. I guess that goes with the territory when you're not a blue blood program and have to take risks to be competitive.

It happens everywhere...see Ben McLemore at KU.

I was the one that posted that simmons got his waiver denied. Andy katz reported it. Go to the "updates" thread and you will see my post with the video of Andy katz reporting it.

I can't get your video to finish. It gets hung up ...... I tried to access it on 2 Macs. It started and got to a point and stopped. I believe you that he said it. I just think he was wrong.

Plus I find it strange that if you google Jaaron Simmons there is not one article on him filing for a transfer waiver, and not one saying a request was denied. I would have thought that was a news-worthy event.

Also, I looked at his twitter account and there was no mention of a waiver request. I would have expected for him to mention disappointment if he applied for a waiver and was denied. He rambled on about his summer workouts with the team. He likes being there very much. He even said something about having a year to learn. "I'm too excited for the first day of practice! A year of improvement! I need it."

That makes sense to redshirt him since Ohio is returning 2 senior PG's. They don't need to fight for a 3rd PG who averaged 2 points per game last year. I choose to believe the waiver request didn't happen.

JMHO

Official Announcement from Ohio of Transfer Saying Simmons Will Redshirt

Andy Katz did not say that his waiver was denied. The word waiver was never mentioned. He just said that he was not eligible. I seriously doubt that the new coach assembling his staff at Ohio had time for the process. Again, there is absolutely no evidence that he ever applied for a waiver. In fact, he states in August that he was redshirting and he could not have applied for a waiver until mid July because he had to enroll to apply. Thomas and House both applied for a waiver.

Just cause I got to take '14-'15 season to sit out don't mean I'm sitting out #FeelMe #ChasingADream
