Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford will make $3.725 million in base salary and an additional $16.65 million under terms of a talent and personal services deal if he remains at the school through the end of his new contract.

Ford, who guided the Cowboys to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, was rewarded in September with an amended contract that runs through 2019.

Contract details were made available Monday. In addition to the $20.375 million that Ford could earn in base salary and talent/personal services compensation, OSU also will contribute $400,000 annually to an employee retirement program for the coach.

The contract stipulates that if Ford terminates the contractual agreement without cause, he — or his new employer — must pay OSU $3 million within 30 days.

Ford also agreed that he will not personally — or indirectly through any authorized agent or representative — inquire into, seek, negotiate for, or accept other full-time or part-time employment of any nature without first obtaining written permission from the athletic director and university president. Permission will not be "unreasonably withheld," according to the contract.

Ford's contractual perks include a fully insured, dealer-provided automobile, initiation fees and membership at Karsten Creek Golf Club, up to 30 tickets per home basketball game, a corporate suite at Gallagher-Iba Arena for regular-season home basketball games and four tickets per home football game.

Ford is in his second season at OSU and has a 31-13 record. His .705 winning percentage is second in school history behind Eddie Sutton's .709 percentage.

"This contract rewards (Ford) for the job he has done and demonstrates OSU's commitment to him," athletic director Mike Holder said in a press release after the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents approved the contract extension.

"We consider Travis a rising star in the coaching profession and look forward to his leadership for many years to come."

Pretty fair for the time being if you ask me. However, the numbers for the latter years of the deal are pretty irrelevant, if Ford has success he will just renegotiate an extension.

$1.4MM just to coach basketball...I am in the wrong line of work.

I missed the portion of the contract that guarantees a lifetime supply of cheese fries

Actually it is my understanding that they are the same suites that are used to watch football games from Gallagher-Iba. Not sure whether they are great for viewing basketball but the fact alone that you can watch both basketball and football from them is pretty cool.

Thats what I'm saying. Are they the ones way up at the top which suck even more than a regular seat there?

Most suites have closed circuit TVs that broadcast the game. It is more of a social event than a sporting event (atleast that is my experience).

An insured car and membership to a CC when you're making large bank to begin with? These are the kind of contract addendums that I find ridiculous.

I suppose these are things that Ford no longer has to worry about; he can focus his attention on being a coach and not a regular guy.

What is the revenue for OU and/or OSU for basketball? It almost seems like a couple of million a year is too much.

Major coaches in every sport have these in their contract...it's beneficial for the other party as well. Having a prestige member join your CC or drive a car with your name on the back is huge advertising. Wouldn't be surprised if the dealership/CC was offering their product or service for a steeply discounted price.
