Fran Talks with Crimson & Cream Machine

I think that being "critical" is coming from an understandable desire from him to appear unbiased. Where I end up is his son is a walk-on student athlete at the University of Oklahoma, he could have walked on at a bunch of places, so to me it is pretty clear where Fran's heart is.

I fully understand he has to tread a bit lightly since his son's at OU (though honestly -- given he's a walk-on, I don't Fran has that much to worry about), but he is overcompensating.

His work during the oswho game was ridiculously one-sided.

Why? Just say my son goes to OU and is a walkon. I hope OU wins as a parent and as a professional I will do my best to be impartial. How can any reasonable person complain

I agree, the call on that game was was pretty one-sided; however, at that point of the season, I can see the "theme" being focused on a potential one and done player. Hindsight being 20/20, the theme should have been OU's resurgence under a HC that has done it over and over. IDK, not trying to make excuses, but Smart being the "storyline" wasn't inexcusable. Color commentators read from scripts too. I'm just happy.

Yeah, I think overall, Fran is just trying too hard to be unbiased and unfortunately comes out looking biased for any team who is playing OU. It is obvious from his comments here that he is a fan of OU and really likes what they are doing. Just hope he isn't doing anymore OU games... Also, I def think MR B is right: "critical for an understandable reason"... I just posted this because I thought it was interesting in light of his recent color commentary on OU games.

Let's just cut to the chase - Fran did a HORRIBLE job calling the game against OSU. I understand the mitigating circumstances, but at the end of the day he was still horrible. I hope he does a better job with today's game.

I do think they decided going in that their coverage was going to focus on oswho (especially Smart), but at some point, when the game's not progressing in such a way as to make the angle you've chosen viable, you have to toss those pregame notes and just cover the action as it's happening.

And it wasn't just video features and stat updates that were oswho-centric throughout (really, a Smart highlight reel in the closing seconds of a nine-point loss?); Fran's comments were, too. He raved ad nauseam about Smart, about Nash, about Forte, even while OU was dominating the game.

The OSU game was a complete abortion for Fran but he was certainly improved (albeit not by much) during the next game. I like Fran, but loathed him slurping the Pokes. I hope he gets back to his old form. We'll find out soon!

I like Fran, too; I've frequently defended him here in the past. Perhaps that's why I took his one-sided calling of the first Bedlam matchup so hard.
