I heard he has shot the ball great his first few days on campus!

Thanks for sharing.. Did you hear anything about his defense, rebounding, etc.?

Good questions, Stikboy!

I have been saying for weeks that Booker will be our best threat to score from deep this season. The only question I have is if he defend at a level that will earn him quality minutes in our rotation? If he does both, he will play and play often.

I don't know about the other aspects of his game. I talked with a guy who watched him shoot for an hour with the coaches and said he rarely missed and every shot looked perfect.

We'll see how Booker can shoot when Cam Clark is hounding him and if he can stay in front of Cam on defense of if Cam blows right around him to the rim.

That's what will matter.

i dont think it will really. this team has lacked an actual bonafide shooter. doesnt matter if all he can do his spot up and cant even create his own shot. we need some guards that will stretch out the D like brady heslip

this thread has me really excited! thanks OP

Agreed. He will need to have a big summer with YoYo IMO. Hopefully he will.

If he can't defend, he will have trouble getting minutes. Especially under Kruger.

I'm optimistic that that Booker will be a nice player for OU. I'm also confident that Kruger will be able to identify the things he does well and find a way to turn him into a good contributor. But, I'm also assuming that he could be a notch below last seasons freshmen in the talent department and way way behind in his development.

Considering that for 3 years the biggest thing holding Cam back is that he can't dribble a basketball, I bet he won't blow right past him to the rim.

Do you really think that has been the problem? I would have thought that lack of aggression and out of control would have been the chart toppers.

Unfortunately we don't play cam's team this year so it doesn't matter at all.

No, the guy is a wing player who can handle the ball like a post player. Can't dribble the ball to save his life. Otherwise, he would be a great slasher, get to the rim a lot more, get fouled a lot more, and be a much more effective player.

Consider that Cameron Clark shot 57 free throws all last year. That is 1.7 free throws per game.

Free throw shooters last year:
Osby: 194 attempts
Mbaye: 80 attempts
Hornbeak: 69 attempts
Grooms: 69 attempts
Fitzgerald: 59 attempts
Pledger: 58 attempts
Cameron Clark: 57 attempts

Is there a site that breaks down a player's shot attempts? I'd love to know what percentage of Clark's shots were 8-17 foot jumpers. I'd guess something like 65%. That is the lowest percentage (when you factor in the extra point for 3's) in basketball. Ask the Pacers' head coach.

Last season, 57% of Clark's shots were jumpers, 7% runners, 28% around the basket, and 8% post-up. Only one of those jumpers was a 3, and he made it.

On mid-range jumpers he shot 51.4%, which is actually an excellent percentage from there.

Synergy tracked 25 isos for Cam last season. Of those, 1 resulted in a drive and shot at the rim. The rest ended in pull-ups, runners, passes, or just jump shots without driving.

About what I expected.

Cam shot exceptionally well on those mid-range jumpers, a stat I'm not sure he can duplicate. I don't think he has the ball skills to take people off the dribble consistently, and no team is going to let him post up more than one or twice. Cam's best hopes for a really good season are that LK increases the pace we play at considerably next season. Cam on the break is where he is probably at his best. If we pressure and run quite a bit next year, I could see Cam getting a lot of easy hoops. My biggest concerns about him have always been in the half court.
