Frank Booker

He is a much better all around player than I was expecting, a truly amazing surprise. I went crazy after he swatted smart.

I think he'll always be defined by his shooting. If he becomes a bit more consistent then the rest of his game is just icing.

I too love his stroke but it has not been that productive to date BTA. He is shooting .342 BTA which follows Neal at .474, Clark .442,Woodard .413, Cousins .392 and Hield .372 and he has shot 20 more threes than anyone but Buddy.

Also he needs to diversify his game as 81% of his shots have been BTA when everyone else is shooting less than 32% of their FGs BTA. He definitely needs to shoot better than .360 if he is going to take that many shots beyond the arc with multiple (5) players that shoot better BTA.

Good analysis. Very interesting.

Give Booker time. Coach Kruger puts his freshmen on the floor and allows them to make mistakes as they gain invaluable experience. Then they become sophomores.

Booker has shown flashes of other aspects of his game besides shooting. He has shown a good toughness for a young player as he has snagged some tough rebounds throughout the season. He also looks to be a smart player (for his age) with good court savvy.

My goodness. This is a wonderful group of young guards.

Somebody compared him to Cade Davis earlier tonight, and my first reaction was nah.

But after I thought about it, that is a pretty good comparison. Underrated guard athleticism-wise. Has some size. Known as a shooter, but can put it on the floor some. I think Booker can defend better down the road. Just a guy that isn't great on the offensive end, but is "good" at a couple of things. Cade's biggest problem was consistency. Well, that and the fact that we asked him to do too much. Booker won't have that problem. I think LK will put him in good positions, and he'll keep growing as a player.

Silly people, you can't compare across races. It's just too much for people to wrap their head around. Ha. I tease.
I think the Cade comparison is a very good one. Pigeon holed as a shooter but +athleticism, good defender.

His percentage will get better. He is shooting 39.5% from three in his last 11 games. He got off to a slow start this season, and even last night, his misses are close. That is a good thing. He rarely misses badly, and that is a sign of a good shooter.

As for driving the ball more, he has shown flashes. Remember, that really wasn't his game when he came to OU. A lot of that is stuff the OU staff has already begun teaching him. But he is a shooter first and foremost. Nothing wrong at all if he simply turns into a three point specialist that plays good D and rebounds some. But I think his ceiling is higher than that.

I don't even think you have to wait for him to be a sophomore to see the experience paying off, simply compare his overall stats to his conference stats.

OOC 3p% - 32.6% (14-43)
Big 12 3p% - 36.7% (11-30)

Most of his other stats are pretty flat, which is also a good sign as the competition has improved, but just noting his 3P% has already improved to high 30's, definitely can see him as a 40% 3P shooter over his career at OU.

At the beginning of the season he jacked up the three every time he touched the ball. He has started playing in the offense now and is picking shots better. That's coaching and experience. Adding the drive and drawing fouls will earn him more playing time.

Shooters that have length to cover space defensively will always find time on the floor. People will get hot and cold on Booker based on how well he shoots from 3, but he is going to be a key cog the next three years.
